Hi there.
1. Noise
You need to determine whether it's the actual machine causing the noise or one of your consumables. The easiest way to do that is to remove both the Toner and Drum from the machine. Once that's done, power it off, and back on. When you power it back on the machine will perform a warm up. If the sound occurs during the warm up without the Toner or Drum in the machine, then unfortunately there is a mechanical problem with the machine and it cannot be fixed unless you visit a local repair shop.
If the noise does not occur, then repeat the process with only the Drum in the machine, leave the toner out. If the noise occurs then, then you know that the Drum is probably at fault and you would need to replace it. If the noise still doesn't appear, put in the toner and repeat the process.
2. Printing multiple pages
For the fact that it's printing multiple pages when you receive a fax, there could be a number of reasons at fault. You can try resetting the machine back to default. To do that, on the printer, press these buttons in order as quickly as possible: Menu *(star) 2 8 6 4. If you press those buttons VERY quickly in order, MAINTENANCE should appear on the screen. Once you have that, press 0, 1, and then Start and the screen should display Param Init briefly. Once that's done the screen should return to Maintenance, just press 9 9 and Start to exit the Maintenance screen.
You will have to set your fax settings back to what they were, but hopefully that should fix your problem.
Hope this helps!

Gears grinding with Brother Intellifax 4100

Does it only make the noise when printing. Do you hear the noise when sending out faxes? I have heard grinding noises onlt when using poor quality toner refills, or the fuser gear and or drive gear asm is stripped. First try a known good OEM toner.
