Thanks Brian for your time and help al the things u mentioned above seem to work fine.I too my pc to a technician in computer market and left it with him for a while he did some thing and told me that main chip is heating more than usual. Now it run fine enough as it used to turn off after every 10 minutes and never started before a half n hour. The technician said to me that the problem cannot be fully repaired and now as I was running windows vista32-bit.I decided to reinstall it so when windows was loading files it again turned off and next time when i started it same message was displayed "the last shutdown was due to thermal event".Then I opened the casing and tried installing the windows again and nothing happened but the pc seemed to be much slower than before so i downgraded to windows Xp but still I cannot play youtube videos in fullscreen in 480p the video is left behind and sound goes on.If any ideas please write thanks in advance.

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions EIDE SATA
the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty

computers need power and data to travel through every working device and to continue its cycle and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

your graphics card drivers might need to be updated
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
otherwise you will need to download them
Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to display adapters + to expand you might see a yellow question mark ? or exclamation mark ! or a red x right click select reinstall drivers
even if you dont see any yellow or red marks right click to update drivers
you might have to remove your graphics card to make sure the socket is clean
restart your computer the reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizardhttp://download.cnet.com/dell-optiplex-g...
if prompted to go to an external site cick to go to external site

click start control panel, display, desktop you can select a different desktop from the drop down list
or a browse button where you can select different pictures this may vary depending on your operating system

also you can change the settings for more or less pixels or from the drop down list pick the appropriate level of color range or troubleshoot also select advanced then general dpi normal size, larger size or custom settings
always click APPLY after making any changes

Check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

check you CPU make sure its securely seated and has thermal grease might be getting to hot

another possible reason could be a memory dump you might be running to many programs at the one time putting to much strain on the CPU central processing unit

hope this helps

SOURCE: My dell GX 270 computer

hi ansilesh

If the power light is steady amber - The computer is receiving
electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Ensure that the microprocessor power cable is securely connected to the
system board.
it might also be a failed mainboard already since you are experiencing a blackout.

hope this helps

Forgot password dell optiplex gx270 how do I bypass the password

If a keyboard fails it is due to damage to the contacts or connection, and many times it is from abuse, water or other fluids entering the board spaces, or burnout. Replacement is easy, and boards are not expensive. If you do not wish to replace the Keyboard, use a USB standard keyboard used on any computer. Simply plug a USB Keyboard into any USB port of the Desktop or Portable. Done!

I have a dell GX 270 that has orange light on mother board, shuts down randomly, seems hot, and says Alert! System battery voltage is low. The fan is running but doesn't kick out much air..

The battery message means you need to change the battery on the motherboard, it looks like a coin about the size of a nickel. Which fan is malfunctioning, the power supply fan, the case fan, or the processor fan?

Which sound card i need to instal

Here is a link to a diagram of the Optiplex GX 270 system board: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx270/SM/EN/replbrd.htm

You need a sound card that has a PCI interface. On a Small Form-Factor board it goes into slot 10. On a Small Desktop system board it would install into the “riser board” which in turn is installed into slot 10. On a Small Mini-Tower system board the sound card would be installed into any available slot marked as 11.

I've heard that Dell will still honor the warranty if you mention the capacitors to them. They haven't recalled them, but they know it is a known problem.
