Can't hear other caller on sony ericsson c905

My sony ericsson c905 was working fine when it was bought and then my friend phoned me and i couldnt hear what she was saying, but she could hear me ok. I returned they gave me a replacement. now after about 2 weeks the same thing has happened again. does anyone know what is wrong with it ? i have tried software updates and other things and it wont work. do you think it's something to do with the speaker in the phone and that theres a fault ?

  • hward5a Dec 08, 2008

  • Anonymous Dec 10, 2008

The exact same thing has happened to me!! I've just got off the phone to Orange and they are sending me a new one by courier tomorrow evening! i really hope it doesnt happen again coz i cant deal with talking to everyone on loudspeaker!!!

  • Uguraslan Dec 11, 2008

Very unfortunate, I have got my mobile a months ago without warranty

    I have the same problem

    Good luck to next users

  • Anonymous Dec 12, 2008

I encounter it too. I am from Singapore. I bought the phone about 2 weeks. Was very happy at the start. Now this prob happens. I only can use my ear piece to communicate.

  • Anonymous Dec 12, 2008

Same problem here. This is teh second fault fault I have head with a C905 within a month. Think I'm going to replace with another model.

  • Anonymous Dec 12, 2008

Yep, same problem here. I have had two C905's which were faulty. Think i'm going to switch to another manufacturer now after being loyal to Sony for 5 years!

  • Anonymous Dec 16, 2008

Exactly the same problem, first didnt work about a month ago, and just today the same thing happened. Will give it one more go then might think of changing manufacters. had Sony phones for about 5 years now!

  • danville01 Dec 17, 2008

I've got the same problem on my C905 too. After using it for 3 weeks. I called the service centre in Singapore and they tottaly deny that this is a common problem. So I wrote to them and referred them to this page. I'm working in Malaysia and have to wait till I get back to Singapore so they can get it fixed.... and not replaced by a new one.... bad bad bad

  • Anonymous Dec 17, 2008

i have the same problem with my c905. i have had 3 faulty hand sets n getting a new one sent tonight. this is such a common problem and its doing my head in.

  • Anonymous Dec 19, 2008

my missus had the problem and we reset the settings which fixed it, i have the problem and it isnt going away!

  • Anonymous Dec 23, 2008

Same issue for me, worked for about 2 weeks then no sound from person on the other end, while he/she can hear me fine. Strange...

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2008

Same Here Must be a massive fault with these phones. Any other good phones out there. Btw mine is vodafone Branded

  • Anonymous Dec 31, 2008

The same problem. Phone was working fine and now after less than two weeks I can't hear anything on the phone when someone else rings or if I ring them, no dial tone, no sound. Kiron Reid, Liverpool.

  • Anonymous Dec 31, 2008

i have the same problem, im on orange, my gf is on o2 and has the same fault, orange will replace mine, this is the 3rd one ive had, o2 wont do anything for my gf, its shocking, theres no quick way around getting a replacement with o2 appart from sending the phone off to a service centre and from whats written in other forums thats taking weeks if not months for some people, surely s/e should be sorting something out for this

  • Anonymous Jan 02, 2009

    same here on Vodafone

  • mrbangor469 Jan 02, 2009

My SE c905 has just gone the same way and its just 2 months old. I can't hear it ringing when I phone and can't hear the other person even though their phone has rung and they answer. I phoned Dialaphone customer services and it has to be returned for repair! Not happy as I'm in an 18month contract and don't want a faulty phone. Would have thought that under Trading Standards it should be replaced not repaired as not fit for purpose if it doesn't work!!

  • mrbangor469 Jan 02, 2009

My mobile went same way yesterday. Can't hear phone ringing so don't know when it connects and can't hear or be heard by other person. Phoned Dialaphone today who say to return it for repair. It's just 2 months old and I have an 18month contract. Surely it should be replaced under Trading Standards as not fit for the purpose for which it was sold!!

  • anisha_juma Jan 04, 2009

i have this same problem. i received the c905as a gift for my birthday. it was workin fine until recently. i was unable to hear people talking. teh only way i could resolve this was to use my headset or use speakerphone.

  • xam10 Jan 06, 2009

the solution that merbdub gave works, but it only works while your holding the c button, once i take it off, the sounds goes, really annoying :l

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2009

same fault..cannot hear callers...holding "c"works as a short term fix..but it has to be a software fault....???

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2009

same problem here,,surley its a software issue??,,im returning the phone to carphone warehouse.

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2009

same problem and also after a while the vibration in the phone will stop working aswell very common fault and its a shame as it's a really good phone

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2009

same problem bought for xmas no receipt etc called at shop where i bought it he told me to send it to s/e!!!!

  • Anonymous Jan 17, 2009

Same problem on my 4th in month but 28 day immediate exchange ran out yesterday and carphone warehouse told me will take 3 weeks to repair - will be ring t-monile in the morning and demanding new phone (different make) or not paying my bill as I can't use phone!! Really fed up although holding the c button down has worked for me and at the moment phone is working fine???!! But for how long!

  • SDanksy Jan 19, 2009

Same problem here too. Given it as a Xmas present. Great phone and really gutted.

  • dickpearce Jan 19, 2009

Yes, just had the very same problem with my c905... happen today, phone is new (nov 08) used the loud speaker to talk.... seems a very comon problem... just googled faults on c905... and here i am...

  • Anonymous Jan 20, 2009

Same problem, C button helps, thanks v much

  • Gingernuts Jan 22, 2009

Seems like this loss of speaker is a 'common' problem then. Just came away from the Orange shop where - as I could not replicate the problem for them they would not replace it. So not happy with this I rang 150 and spoke to Customer services who stated that until 28 days were up it IS the responsibility of the shop. As I was still in the shop I had Customer dis-services explain this to the assistant - lo and behold they would not budge, company policy or some such twaddle - so in the end Orange are sending me a new phone tomorrow. But if it goes wrong again - they want to charge me 15 quid!
I am going back to my old K800.
Having had this phone for a little over 2 weeks I would definately NOT recommend it to anyone - I have a feeling it's multitude of problems will run and run.

  • Anonymous Jan 31, 2009

Same problem guys! im on my second one, and that one has already been sent off for 5 weeks to repair a wifi problem.....they fixed that now the speaker dosent work when people call....i cant here them, they can hear me.....need the headset or loud speaker to comunicate.

  • Anonymous Feb 04, 2009

gr me to after two weeks

  • Anonymous Feb 04, 2009

O2 customer care say the fault with the earpiece is a software problem, Sony Ericsson has been in contact and told them to tell us that this can be rectified by visiting there website and installing new software, I don’t know yet if it will work as I have been making do with pressing c up until now but will give it a go when I get home tomorrow.

  • Anonymous Feb 13, 2009

ok im on my sechond phone!! in just two months... and now the speaker is really distorted. iv not even had the ear volume on full as after the 1st broke i was being very carefull. i dont even make alot of calls or receive them... iv done alot of serching on the internet and loads of poeple are having this problem. also people are having faults with the keyboard leds and the keyboard up and down keys. i think this phone is doomed. iv always had sony ericssons but this phone has put me write off. as iv got an 18month contract. but the phones lasts 2 -6 weeks and then it gets the earpeice fault!!!! shocking!!!! i will now try and get o2 to change for a totaly different phone!!!

  • Anonymous Feb 23, 2009

ive had the same thing happen to me, right in the middle of a phone call i could no longer hear the person on the other end but they could hear me clearly also my 3 and 7 buttons have stopped working and scroll down key seems to be on its way out as well, and apart from crashing whenever i make a phone call or send a txt i havent notticed anything else wrong

ive looked up the speaker problem and all that can be done is whenever you make or answer a call, hold down firmly the cancel button you should be able to hear through your speaker then, but now the cancel buttonn is giveing up to :(

think ill just get my money back

  • Anonymous Feb 26, 2009

Amazing - same problem. Phone is just three months old and suddenly I cannot hear anything except through the earphones or the loudspeaker. I'm trying the reset first before I bring the phone back.

  • Anonymous Feb 26, 2009

my sony ericson is exactly how you described, think i dropped it but i have hundreds of times before and it has never done this before??

  • Anonymous Mar 02, 2009

on my 3rd C905 and its now developed the same fault. my software is up to date

now this one has to go to repair this time to fix, been told that all phones made before week 48 of 2008 has this fault.

Check under your batter for this info beside the fcc id, you should see 08w42 or something similar, if you have this before 08w49, then you phone has the same fault as all of us

  • Charlie333 Mar 10, 2009

Same problem - had the phone for just over a week and today the sound has suddenly gone and I can only hear people on loud speaker. Have always had Samsung so regretting switching to this model now!

  • Anonymous Mar 18, 2009

    as described in header line

  • Anonymous Mar 21, 2009

I thought I did something wrong, However, this is clearly a hardware problem from SE. SE should better recall this phone!

  • ccx_1 Mar 28, 2009

can't hear other caller on sony ericsson c905

  • selimkhalife Mar 31, 2009

i have same problem for sure it is a defect
i contacted sony ericsson they said to download the software i did and it didnt solve the problem. then they said nope it is not a defect they asked me to fax them the receipt and seller info hope they will fix it. i think all of us should contact them in order to know

  • xlilshorty Apr 07, 2009

But.. once someone answers the call.. If you carry on pressing the C button, it mutes the call so they cant hear you.. :/

I have the smae problem and im going to cry :( I've just speant a fortune on this phone, and i dont wana spend another fortune trying to get it fixed =(

  • Anonymous Apr 11, 2009

I have the exact same problem! I think its definitely a common problem, as evidently shown below...I dont know what to do, tried the C button, but that doesnt do anything, i've only had it for 2 weeks, but for some reason not allowed to return it?! Im guessing this can be fixable, but costing me isnt really a great thing! such a dissapointment especially as I really wanted this phone, and it was definitely a keeper!

  • Anonymous Apr 14, 2009

    I also have this problem!

I got this phone on contract after wanting it for a while and now the stupid thing doesnt work!

Im going to send some naughty emails!

  • S-Gidds Apr 17, 2009

Guys i have had 2 phones returned ro Sony for this - each time they just send a new one out. i would have thought if it was software they would have fixed it by now.

    Gidds

Apparently because its a slide phone, the ribbon wire connected to the top speaker eventually deteriorates with use.

The phone should have a 2 year warranty, so if you take it back to where you got it from, they should send it back to the SE repair centre. Mine took a week to fix, and they restore factory settings (make sure you keep hold of memory card and SIM card when you send it off). Until you can get it fixed though, the main speaker still works (when call is in progress, hit 'Spkr On').

But a pretty stupid design flaw if you ask me...

Putting the call on speaker phone does work but then everyone hears your conversation. If you use the headphones you should be able to hear the caller through them. A temporary fix for this annoying problem!

Send the phone back, I have had mine for 1 year and they will repair it for free as the phone has been fitted with a known weak internal speaker. Contact your mobile operator.
