This happened to my Fitbit, but it occurred because of putting it through the washing machine and the dryer. When I first took it off the shirt it was on, I couldn't get a response of any kind from the device no matter how long I held the button or put it on the docking base. I followed the Fitbit site instructions to put it in a cup of rice overnight. The next morning, I pressed the button and got nothing. Then I put it on the docking base and it flashed "Fitbit 4.14." Everywhere I looked online said this meant the device was damaged and would need replacement. My husband suggested I try to reset it while it was on the base, so I held the button down until, to our surprise, the battery symbol came up, which meant it was low on charge and was no charging. I let it charge for awhile, took it off the base, pressed the button, and amazingly I got my normal display and it rotated through all the options just as it should. There's no guarantee that this will work on every device, but try all of that before you give up. It just might work.
The reason for the Fitbit 4.14 error is that the firmware on the device is out-of-date. To correct this error, go to the lower tray on your computer (near the date and time in the lower right side of screen), right click on the Fitbit Service Manager icon, choose "Fitbit" and then "About". The About screen will show you what version of firmware is installed on your device. Now choose "upgrade firmware" in the lower left side. Follow the instructions on the screen. It took about 5 minutes to complete my upgrade and the device is working like new again.
I hope this helps.
I too have the dreaded flashing 14.4, What I find interesting is the fact that FitBit tells you to wear this device on your bra as an option and yet this seems to be a vulnerable place due to sweat and causes the very issue we are experiencing in the 14.4. Perhaps the should change their best practices
Mine is flashing and was never exposed to sweat or moisture. I tried to reset it, download new firmware etc. nothing. sometimes on base it cycles through appropriately but when take off the base, back to the 4.14 flashing. I believe it is not charging, due to the internal battery just giving out. Thats why it cycles plugged in and is dead otherwise.
I bought the flex a year ago and it is working ok but syncing is finicky...the ultra was the best all around except I kept leaving it on my night stand. The flex I never take off except to charge, so it is better. Handles the shower etc. Kinda stinks that they don't have customer phone support so that we could be walked through and confirm the problem.
