Ps2 Disk won't spin unless pressure applied

You need to put a small weight ontop of the disc drive and then it should work

If it's having issues reading ANY kind of discs (CD's, DVD's, PS2 games) it might be due to a malfuctioning lense or a disk rotator motor issue.

Since it's agaisnt the PS2 TOS to modify or take apart your PS2 you should contact customer support or tech support with this issue.

The lens assembly is directly associated with a non spinning disk issue.

Here was my situation.

I purchased a used PS2 slim from an ebay seller that had the disk read error. I bought another lens from another ebay seller and when installed it, the disk would not spin. I then replaced the new lens assembly with my old one and the disk started spinning again but I still had the disk read error. I contacted the seller to send me a replacement lens assembly for the defective one I received.

Bottom line is if your lens assembly is bad, the disk will not spin. You can replace the lens assembly for about $4 or $5 on ebay.

This mostly occurs to all slimline PS2 it is a common problem.

Sounds like the lid of your PS2 may be damaged. If holding down the top starts a game up, but the PS2 will not start up by itself, something is preventing the case from holding down the switch on the motherboard that lets the PS2 know that the lid is closed.

There is a Sensor on the lid that is designed to keep people from using things like Swapmagic to play Burned games on the Slimline version. Problem is, this Sensor likes to go out. I would contact sony and tell them their sensor has gone bad and request that they fix it. If you are still under warranty they should do this for free.

It's not enough to use a disk to clean the laser lens. You have to take the PS2 apart and clean the lens manually. Nicotine, Incense, diffusers, and other smokes and just time itself clouds the lens. Not only that but the part that the disk sits and spins on needs to be cleaned over time as well to assure the disk is in proper alignment and Is not just kinda spinning on the spindle.

In that link i posted above you be led to directions on how to take apart your PS2 and what parts to clean. The instructions I have posted in that tutorial is for the (FAT) PS2 model not SLIMLINE. If you have a slimline model you don't have to take apart anything just open your cover and clean the parts in the video.

Not necessarily, just make sure that the laser is not locking up and its actually moving if not then that right there might be the problem. If it is moving then you might need a new laser. If its that the laser is not moving do not touch it instead try moving the ps2 and making sure that you don't hear any clanking noise inside.

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.

There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
