SOURCE: Kodak Easy Share M763 Won't turn on!!

Remove the batteries and clean the battery contacts inside the camera with a soft cloth (a heavy buildup on the contacts may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that the cleaning leaves in the camera, and then reinstall the batteries. This clears most power-on problems, but if yours persists, check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

My pentax w90 will only take a photo automatically when turned on,

Per Evan89's remark above, on these units the "shutter" button fails in the "on" or "down" position. There are a lot of reports on the internet. As soon as you turn the camera on it charges the flash and takes one or more pictures. It won't respond to other controls because it senses that the shutter bitton is depressed. A side effect is that the battery drains quickly.
I'm looking around to see if I can order a replacement switch assembly since these cameras are easy to take apart.

I hope you have solved this problem if not there is two things that have happened to me one was that I had unlocked the lens and it turned a little which shut off the communications between the camera ad lens. The other is where the gold contacts between the camera and lens became slightly dirty with a hazy this is easily fixed with a DIY. using a pencil eraser gently polish the contacts between the camera and lens both sets of contacts, be careful not to get dirt into the camera or lens when you are doing this. Don't use a puffer or any air.
