It would be better for me to help you fix your problem if you had mentioned the Model, Operating System, etc of your system. Well, I guess you hear the beep sounds. There are several possibilities, but since you didn't mention the beep sequence, let me describe few possible causes in brief. It could be Ram, Display or BIOS. If it's with the Ram, re-seating or replacing it will fix it. But if in case it's the Display Card, or the BIOS, it will be hard for your to fix in a simple method. I would suggest you to first check the RAM, or Replace the RAM. If it doesn't, you better take it to a repair shop for investigation and to further diagnose. Display and BIOS are hard to fix since you'll need to replace the Motherboard. Hope this helps.. Good Luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Thank you, Lebanon. Sorry about the omissions. The OS is Win XP Home. The m/b is a Gigabyte GA-81PE 1000 Pro 2 socket 478 with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 Ghz The model is one I built myself (I have built 8 computers and they all work fine apart from this one). I replaced the graphics card and PSU, to no avail, re-seated the four X 512 DRAMs (which check out just fine), flashed the BIOS and replaced the master boot record. I also checked the front panel leads for breaks and shorts - nothing - and carefully ensured that the leads were correctly plugged into the m/b's front panel connectors. Stll no use. The really annoying thing is that once booted up, the PC runs beautifully, but this intermittent failure to boot on pressing the button, and/or continuous beeping, is a pain.
So I have ordered a replacement m/b. I just hate to be beaten by a computer but I will have to draw a financial line under this one if the new m/b doesn't fix it.
Many thanks for your interest and help.
You are welcome and good luck. I don't think you see anything on the monitor when it beeps. If it does show display, you should see some error or errors. Well, Sometimes we just need to replace a spare or replacement spares to fix a computer though it's annoying and affect financially. All the best.
