When I press the Start button the system speaker chatters but the PC will not boot up

  • Anonymous May 07, 2012

Thank you, Lebanon. Sorry about the omissions. The OS is Win XP Home. The m/b is a Gigabyte GA-81PE 1000 Pro 2 socket 478 with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 Ghz The model is one I built myself (I have built 8 computers and they all work fine apart from this one). I replaced the graphics card and PSU, to no avail, re-seated the four X 512 DRAMs (which check out just fine), flashed the BIOS and replaced the master boot record. I also checked the front panel leads for breaks and shorts - nothing - and carefully ensured that the leads were correctly plugged into the m/b's front panel connectors. Stll no use. The really annoying thing is that once booted up, the PC runs beautifully, but this intermittent failure to boot on pressing the button, and/or continuous beeping, is a pain.
So I have ordered a replacement m/b. I just hate to be beaten by a computer but I will have to draw a financial line under this one if the new m/b doesn't fix it.
Many thanks for your interest and help.

You are welcome and good luck. I don't think you see anything on the monitor when it beeps. If it does show display, you should see some error or errors. Well, Sometimes we just need to replace a spare or replacement spares to fix a computer though it's annoying and affect financially. All the best.

It would be better for me to help you fix your problem if you had mentioned the Model, Operating System, etc of your system. Well, I guess you hear the beep sounds. There are several possibilities, but since you didn't mention the beep sequence, let me describe few possible causes in brief. It could be Ram, Display or BIOS. If it's with the Ram, re-seating or replacing it will fix it. But if in case it's the Display Card, or the BIOS, it will be hard for your to fix in a simple method. I would suggest you to first check the RAM, or Replace the RAM. If it doesn't, you better take it to a repair shop for investigation and to further diagnose. Display and BIOS are hard to fix since you'll need to replace the Motherboard. Hope this helps.. Good Luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Did not turn off system correctley brings up options launch start up repair which dosent work just brings up error mesage and turns off power and start windows normally which brings me back to error...

Hello,

Try to make a repair from the dvd of the windows you are using.
You just have to boot from the dvd player at the start of the computer.
Normaly there is write on the first main screen "press F2 to go setup" "press F12 to launch boot option" so you just have to look which button you have to press for the boot option and restart the computer to press the right button (maybe is F8 by you i don't have no idea)
Then you wait for the dvd to boot, and choose repair.

I push the power button and the light on the button comes on and I can hear something spinning but the laptop won't boot up

have anything in display? if there is none, it is an LCD Panel problem and system board problem. If there is display, just open the back part of the laptop and remove the RAM modules and turn it ON. the system should beep. Then turn it OFF and after 1 minute put the RAM modules back and turn the laptop ON. should get the display now

My dell desktop doesn't start or boot from cd rom

Basically you need to go to Bios to change your "Boot device pripority". Please follow these steps to do this.

Please follow these steps to install XP on your PC.

1. Please start your PC with power button. At the very first screen, at the left down corner, you will see the button to be pressed to go to Setup i.e. Bios of the PC. For most of the PCs , it is delete button. For some of them, it is F2 also. So, after starting the PC press Del to go into setup.

2. After you enter setup of the PC, please go to Advance bios setup.

3. There you select Boot device priority.

4. here the first boot device priority should be CD ROM, then the HDD. Please see the instructions given at right down corner and select this priority.

5. After you rightly selected boot device priority as given above, Press F10 to save the changes and then press F12 to exit.

6. Now the PC will restart again, but be sure that you put win XP cd in the drive before it restarts.

7. Now you will see a note that : press any key to boot from CD ROM, so please press any key.

8. The PC will boot from the CD ROM now , now you can follow the instructions given on the screen.

As you know a cold boot will not help you here.

You need to access the IPL loader.

Press and hold the Power button and both Scan buttons, then press the Reset button. When the mobile computer resets into IPL, release the Power button and Scan buttons.
