I found that my Vtech 5825 phone was dead one morning. I tried charging it but it wouldn't charge. I put new batteries in it and the screen had "Not Registered" on it. It wouldn't do anything and it still wouldn't charge. I tried taking the batteries out and unplugging the base from the electricity and phone line for a few minutes. No change. The second handset still works. I couldn't find anything about this problem on Vtech's web site and I couldn't find an option to talk to anyone when I called the customer support number. Anyone know how to re-register this phone?
I had the same problem and I JUST fixed it! First, unplug the power to the main base (answering machine) for 20 seconds. Plus it back in. Put the phone that says "not registered" in the main answering machine. It will say "press the find handset for 4 seconds". Do that. It will run thru a series of stuff and will find the handset. It works! Rich (jambones.com)
This worked for the 7100, hopefully it works for other models:
When the handset says "not registered", it should still have a "menu" option. Select that, then the only choice is "register", select Ok. Now it says "searching for base", press and *hold down* the "locate handset" button on the base until the handset beeps and wakes up. Docs say this could take up to 30 seconds (it was about 17 for mine).

Usually answered in minutes!
This solution doesn't work on my phone. The IP5825 doesn't have a answering machine. When I plug the base back in and put the phone in the base the phone still says "not registered". Pressing the "page handset" button on the base does nothing.
I finally got a response from Vtech. They didn't offer any solution for this problem.
Apparently if the phone is under warranty you have to send in the entire set for replacement. If it is out of warranty the only option is to buy a new set.
Finally got a response from Vtech support:
"There is no procedure on how to re-register the handsets on this model."
Thanks for the help Vtech.
Different phone. Same problem. no one at vTech to help
