How do I turn off ECM in my Brother MFC 8220?

From the Brother website:
If you are using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), (a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line, review the information listed below. If you are not using VoIP continue to Step 8.

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is not a marketed feature of your Brother machine, however there is a compatibility setting available with this machine that may assist with sending and receiving faxes when using VoIP. Adjusting this setting lowers the baud rate (modem speed) and turns ECM (Error Correction Mode) Off. To adjust this setting follow the steps listed below:

  1. Press Menu or Menu/Set => Fax => Miscellaneous => Compatibility.
  2. Select Basic.
  3. Press OK or Menu/Set. (For touchscreen models, skip this step.)
  4. Press Stop/Exit.

I have a zyxel prestige 2000 series for voip,i dont get proper dial tone and d led color in green not orange,t works only n orange

Please make sure that you're credentials are correct and properly configure in your VoIP box. Forward UDP ports used for VoIP. This would be the basic steps to ensure you get proper dial tone from your Intenet Telephne Service Provider.

Hope this helps!

Can NEC Telephones, ( in aprticular NEC 1000 24

VoIP in this case is probably the way you'e going to have outside telephone numbers delivered to your premise. They usually come with boxes that you would plug a regular phone into and get dial tone, or in this case, you'll wire each Analog Terminal Adapter, ATA jack to the line side of a trunk in the DS-1000.

Since the DS has 3 lines per jack, you're going to either need an adapter that breaks out L1 L2 and L3 or someone who can wire a 6-pin jack and use a 6-wire modular to modular cord to break out your individual lines to the ATA's.

It's a fairly quick job if you know how to do it.

How would fax run on VOIP? what requirment it needs?

typically faxing doesn't work on VOIP. i tried many times and sometimes it would go through although it said it didn't. other times it didn't work at all. VOIP has a limited bandwidth and the fax needs to send more info over the line than VOIP makes room for.

to have the best luck, stop all downloads and other network traffic while attempting to fax, so that there are no other programs or devices using the internet. the fax will have its best chance of working that way, although it probably still won't

here are some very good tips as well:

Receiving faxes with a Cisco ATA 186

More investigation implies that faxing over VoIP, as I am doing, requires setting the fax BAUD rate to 9600 bps or slower. So does anyone know if it is possible to set the BAUD rate on the Dell MFP 1600n multifunction printers?
