Icemaker - flap won't open, cubes collect in chute

Ice maker has worked perfectly until 2 days ago. Now, when a cup is placed against the lever to dispense ice, you can hear the ice fall thru the chute... but instead of the flap opening and allowing cubes to fall into the cup, the flap stays closed and the cubes collect on top of it.

I opened the freezer door and you can see ice cubes that were dispensed sitting in the chute on top of the flap. I can reach thru the ice and push the flap open, the ice will fall into my cup, and the flap will spring back to closed position. But for some reason the flap is no longer opening freely on its own.

I always thought the flap opened simply from the pressure of ice cubes falling against it. But now I am led me to believe that this flap is controlled by some kind of mechanism - but I have no idea what that mechanism is. Is there a switch or something connected to the flap? I have only a limited view of the flap from either side of the freezer door.

What controls the flap and can it be fixed?

    I took out the drip tray to get a look inside. I can see the actuator arm you are talking about - it has a white plastic piece that engages a metal bar on the door. Is this actuator controlled electronically in response to the paddle being pushed? Or is it just friction driven?

    Thanks.

    Thanks. I'll investigate further.

    Hi, I have this exact same problem but with a Leisure HJA6100 Fridge Freezer. Any help/solution would be gratefully received as it's driving us nuts in the warm weather! :) Thanks in advance...

The actuating paddle that you are depressing to dispense ice actually pushes the door open at the top of the dispensor, soundsas if thered an issue withthe actuator arm

    diagram not reall clear, but the door flap def opens manually( from pushing actuator)it is then closed slowly by either a damper motor or a step motor, to prevent fast close.if you remove the lower drip tray from the dispenser, there is 2 phillips screws under holdong front on,you can get a better look as to whats preventing operation

Our Kenmore side by side refrigerator ice maker makes ice but when we press the ice dispenser lever there is no sound and no ice comes out.

If your refrigerator has an ice dispenser, you are probably used to getting ice right away when a lever or button is pressed. However, if you depress the ice maker button and nothing dispenses, there is an issue with your refrigerator. There are a few different reasons why an ice dispenser would suddenly not work. It is important to troubleshoot your refrigerator first to determine the problem. Some problems can be fixed at home, while others must be repaired by a professional

1 Remove the ice bin from the freezer and press the button on the front of the refrigerator for cubed ice.
2 Open the freezer door and hold down the switch on the door, which "tricks" the freezer into thinking the door is closed, and push the lever or button to dispense ice. The motor behind the ice bin should turn. If it does not, this means the motor is frozen.

3 Remove the motor, following the directions in your refrigerator's manual. Heat and dry out the motor with a hairdryer until the motor turns again, then reinstall the motor according to the manufacturer's directions.

Ice Bin or Chute
1 Remove the ice bin to see if it is overloaded. Ice bins that are too full can cause new ice being produced to back up and cause blockage. If this is the case, dump out the ice and rinse out the ice bin with hot water until any blockage is melted.

2 Examine the separator that divides the ice storage bin from the ice dispenser for holes. If the separator has a hole or is cracked, it must be replaced.

3 Watch the flap on the ice dispenser as you hold down the door switch and simultaneously press the button to dispense ice. If the flap does not close all the way, check for ice blockage and gently remove it. If there is no blockage, the flap will need to be replaced.

Hope this tips would help.

Have a nice day!

LFX25970 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator This morning it began to make a clicking noise coming from the ice/water dispenser and cold air was coming down from the opening. I pushed the lever for ice and it...

You may have an issue with one or more of the following:

* icemaker
* dispenser actuator
* ice chute door assembly
* ice dispenser solenoid (if the solenoid is stuck in an open position, the ice chute door/flap would remain open allowing cold air to escape).

Contact an appliance service company.

Ice machine does not make ice

No guide that I know of .

Open the freezer door and see if the laser light on the right side , flashes twice , then pause , repeatedly . Close the flap on the left side , and the laser should stop flashing . If this is what occures , then the optics ( cut off of the icemaker ) are ok . If you open the freezer and no laser on the right , check the position of the "rake" inside the icemaker . Close the freezer door for about 1 min , and then recheck the position of the rake . If it hasn't moved , then the icemaker is bad .
If the light flashes 2 times then pauses , pour about 2/3 cup of water into the icemaker , and check later , to see if the ice maker has dumped the cubes . If did not dump , replace the icemaker . If did dump , and did not fill with water , then the water valve behind the refrig is bad . Also check the black fill tube above the ice maker fill cup , to see if it is iced up , keeping the water from going into the fill cup . If it is frozen , then replace the water valve , due to seeping ( not closing completely ) , causing the slight drip , to freeze inside the tube .
This is the only guide I know of and it's called an experience guide .

Ice maker chute becomes jammed with snow and cubes are being crushed even if the cube option is selected

You need to remove the ice bin , remove ( save ) the ice , and defrost the bin opening with hot water . It sounds like a piece of ice got caught behind the bin flap , keeping the flap from opening fully , so cubes will go thru . When cubes cannot go thru , the crusher will crush anything that tries . Now this is the ice container only .

The ice maker does not make ice anymore

There's no ice If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order: It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these: If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire. If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire. In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly. The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary. The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.
thanks.

Ice Maker frost and freeze where ice drops into refrigerator door

You need a service guy to look at it. It could be water leaking or a simple case that the flap isnt sealing and the ice melts and then freezes the flap open
