Water leaking from top of RO system.

I have a Kenmore Universal Reverse Osmosis home drinking water system, Model No. 625.347030. The system is 10 years old.

Water is streaming out of a small hole in the top of the RO cap. The water isn't dripping out of the hole, but rather is a fully developed low pressure stream of water. The hole that I am referring to is located in the top of the RO cap and near the base of the threaded cap of the shut off assembly. The water is not coming from the base of the RO cap where it interfaces with the RO housing.

I have replaced the following parts of the shutoff assembly: the top threaded cap, o-ring, diaphragms, and the plunger. It is still leaking water from the top of the RO cap.

The term name for the parts I am describing come from the Repair Parts list and schematic drawing. I hope this additional information is helpful in solving the problem. Can you recommend how I proceed to stop the leak? If the leak cannot be fixed, is the solution to buy new RO system?

There is no internal float. There is an automatic shutoff valve which activates when the bladder is full of product water; A check valve that prevents the backward flow of product water from the storage area to the membrane; a Flow control cartridge.

  • dgerkin Nov 18, 2008

There are no cracks in the cap. Water is coming out of a manufactured hole in the top of the RO cap.

  • dgerkin Nov 18, 2008

Yes, I replace the RO membrane regulary, the existing one is only one year old.

I replaced the flow control cartridge last week with a new one and a new screen, but it is still leaking. The water is still streaming out of the hole is the RO cap that is associated with the automatic shutoff assembly.

  • dgerkin Nov 19, 2008

There is no plug for the hole.

  • dgerkin Nov 19, 2008

I have already tried those fixes, but it is still leaking out on top of the RO cap.

  • dgerkin Nov 19, 2008

Thanks, I already have this manual.

  • dgerkin Nov 19, 2008

Thanks, I already replaced the o-ring with a new one, and I've reassembled the automatic shut off at least 3 times now. But it's still leaking.

Where is faucet vent hole located? This unit is leaking from the hole in the top of the RO cap.

  • dgerkin Nov 19, 2008

I already did that. I need a more specific solution.

  • dgerkin Nov 19, 2008

That was my initial solution. I have triple check this and I still have the leak.

  • dgerkin Nov 19, 2008

I tried that 3 times already, and it still leaks.

  • dgerkin Nov 20, 2008

I already checked for clogging. None found and water flows unrestricted through the lines.

  • dgerkin Nov 20, 2008

No lines are clogged, water is flowing unrestricted in all lines.

  • dgerkin Nov 20, 2008

    I already have a manual.

  • dgerkin Nov 20, 2008

    I'm trying this forum first.

  • dgerkin Nov 20, 2008

There is no leak at the faucet vent hole or obstruction in the line. If you think Kenmore techs can be helpful, please call them. I not aware of a Kenmore Tech helpline.

There is a crack in the cap of the automatic shutoff assembly or one or both of your diaphragms are leaking, meaning they may be worn or have a hole. One way to check this is to line the diaphragms with Vaseline and reassemble. Remember; the smallest hole will allow water to come out of the emergency drain hole. : )

To repair this problem refer to diagram # 10 in the manual you have. Reassemble everything exactly according to this diagram and the leak should be resolved. This should help. Good Luck

My first thought is to make sure all of the parts in the shutoff assembly are aligned EXACTLY as the manual describes...holes and notches...then make sure the cap is tightened to align the mark on it with the arrow on the RO cap. Do not overtighten it.

  • Push tube into fitting past “O” ring seal.

  • Cut damaged area from tube or replace tube

  • Remove “O” ring and inspect “O” ring groove for debris. Clean groove, lube, and reseat “O” ring.

  • Reroute tubing so tubing runs vertically with no sharp bends or loops. (Cut off excess 3/8 tubing so that tube runs "downhill" to drain)

Disconnect drain tube and clean out restriction. (Food particles from garbage disposal).

If the sink p-trap is used as the drain point, RO reject water is routed to the faucet air-gap through 1/4" tubing. It gravity drains from the faucet through 3/8" tubing to the drain point. The hole in the faucet body, below the lever, is the air-gap vent. If the 3/8" tubing is restricted in any way, reject water will backup and leak from the faucet vent hole. Thoroughly clean the tubing and the p-trap fitting if leakage occurs at the vent hole

Have you tried to clean out the flow control (part #7167764 Ref #25 on diagram)? It is inside the tube at the end where it comes off the RO cap (and goes to the air gap). Take a fine wire and poke it through the flow control to remove any blockage. This may do the trick.

Did you replace/ service the RO membranes regularly ?
If not, may be its developing high pressure to cause the leak.

Leaks on the top of black box of culligan water softner under sink system

Is this a reverse osmosis drinking water system? If it is it is an H8 RO. If so shut the water off that feeds the RO. The leak is probably coming from one of the fittings, they can be cut by the compression fittings and leak.

How do you know if you need to replace the RO membrane filter in the culligan good water machine

A TDS (total dissolved solids)meter is needed to test the Reverse Osmosis water and compare it to the feed water to determine how much TDS is being removed. Reverse osmosis membranes are designed to remove 80-95% of the TDS in your water supply.

For example: If your water has 500ppm of TDS the minimum TDS removal should be 400ppm leaving 100ppm. If the TDS from the Reverse Osmosis System drops to these levels it is time to change the Membrane.
Typically an RO system will consistently remove 90+% of TDS for many years. The normal lifespan for a membrane can be anywhere from 3-10 years. It all depends on the TDS of your water and your water usage. The higher the TDS the more frequently the membrane needs replacing. The other filters should be replaced every 6 months to keep the quality up and protect the membrane.
A TDS of 1000ppm compared to 100ppm is much more difficult remove to acceptable levels. I like to compare 1000TDS to taking muddy water, forcing it through a filter and getting drinking water. Where 100TDS may be more like a clear glass of water. Consequently a reverse osmosis system on high TDS will be less efficient, less gallons produced and filters will need to be changed more frequently to keep the quality and quantity up.

My culligan water filter makes a gurgle sound

The reverse osmosis faucet you have incorporates an AIR GAP to prevent cross contamination to the RO system. The waste water first goes up the to RO faucet AIR GAP and then goes to drain. The "gurgling noise" is the waste water going to drain. Some of these are much noisier than others.

I can't remove the filter sump from the Kenmore under sink filter unit. I am turning the correct direction. Broke one wrench already. Don't want to snap the second one. Full product id is: Kenmore Two...

Mark and unhook all the tubes from the filter. Take it out and place it on a table horizontally. This is all about correct leverage.

While holding the reverse osmosis system in one hand, slide the wrench into a canister and turn it counter-clockwise.
If this still does not work, you may have to soak the filter canisters (bottom housing part ONLY) in warm water with vinegar and try the steps above again.

Which is the best RO system to use for an LG side-by-side fridge?

You realize you asked a simple question for a very complex answer. Water supply is the first key and that water supply depends if the reverse osmosis has been applied there before reaching your refrigerator. I can name many countries where the water you see you cannot drink but only purchase purified water. If you have clean and safe drinking water in your home then use the recommended filter that LG reccomends. If not then I recommend Omni Pure. Thanks, Sea Breeze
