Hi Debbi, thank you for askig. I got to the solution, I had the dog leveler in "button" sewing mode. Use a brand new needle that is best suited for the thread weight and type of fabric you are stitching. All About Needles
Be sure that you ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the upper thread. This releases the tension disk so the thread will seat properly. Also, if it continues to have loose stitches underneath, tighten the upper tension.
It sounds like it has not been correctly threaded or the tension is too tight. Check the tension discs for bits of thread that may have broken off and be causing a blockage.
Re-thread the top threads making sure the pressure foot is up before passing the thread through the tension discs!
Then check the bobbin is running correctly by pulling on the tail of the thread. The bobbin should rotate clockwise. Put the bobbin case in and make sure it is seated correctly.
If all this fails try replacing the needle. A blunt needle can cause all sorts of weird problems
Your machine probably came with brother embroidery bobbin thread (one spool, white)...I used it until it was gone and did buy more embroidery bobbin thread at a regular superstore (it wasn't brother brand though)...however, I have since used regular thread and not had problems. HOWEVER, be sure it is good, quality thread - none of that $.50/spool stuff. That knots up and simply doesn't look good if it does work. Good luck!
I just solved this problem with much persistence and a few possible causes. Mkae sure the thread is good quality and cant shred, at least until problem is fiwed. Unscrew plate behind bibbin and check if there is any caught thread, this happens after bottom thread has been looping. Remove any and replace, wind down the needle to check it goes in the centre of hole.
And probably the most important fix it; the tension;
Have your tension set to zero, thread the machine, and when the foot is DOWN, make sure it is very hard to pull the thread. It should be easy to pull the thread when the foot is UP. If the thread is easy both ways it has not caught correctly in the tension plates, thread it again (and again) until this happens. It shouldn't be possible to thread the machine without it going in the right place, but it is. And make sure when you rethread that the foot is UP until you thread the needle-
Another problem maker I also had to fix; ever so slightly bent needle.
Make sure that your needle is put in the correct way, there is a groove in the front of the needle, check with your finger nail, this is usually to be facing you, and make sure the thread is going through the tension holder correctly do not have the foot down when you are threading the machine,as this stops the thread from going through the needle tension holder.
im going to help you as much as i can,,,,try using a bobbin that is already threaded and make sure bobbin is in bobbin case correctly, make sure machine is threaded to instructions in book,,,if this is all done exactly u should not have a problem unless something is jammed
