TV is a 42pf9966.
When I push power button on side of TV (remote isn't doing anything), I hear a click as it tries to turn on. I can see the screen try to come on with a light glow on the screen itself but it almost immediatly fades out slowly. Same with the blue backlights behind the "power" "menu" etc buttons on the side of the TV.
Every once in a while, the TV (and ambilights) will actually come on but most often, the TV just tries and then fades off. At the beginning of the symptoms (a few days ago), after I tried to turn the TV on, the red and blue indicator lights on the front of the TV would alternate back and forth each time I could hear the click. As if the TV was trying repeatedly to come on.
This all just started one morning, the night before all was fine.
Strangely, the TV did the same thing about a year ago for 2 days (TV is about 1.5 yrs old) then was fine until now it started doing it again. After a week now it's out for good. In fact, I don't even hear a click anymore. I push the power button and the little blue lights behind the buttons come on, then fade off. Nothing else.
Seems to me it's the power suppply modulator (or something along those lines) that's gone bad. If a fuse, that would be nice but symptoms don't indicate a fuse as a fuse burnout is usually an on/off symptom.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't live in the US now and am nowhere near a service shop/person. I want to be able to handle this myself if at all possible. Will be back in US soon and can pick up part if necessary.

Wow this is scary, I'm from Australia bought mine in 2005 model Philips 42PF9966 42in
1/ Had the same problem with the on/ off happening it would click etc , sent it back they did what ever and problem went away 2006
2/ 2007 then we had the same problem of the picture getting like RFinterference but it would do it on all channels so not an aerial problem it would some times last 30 mins to 6hrs with this snowy/grainy horizontal distortion until finally the whole screen was coloured snow, so guess what we under warranty sent it back to a Phillips repairer , who after 2 weeks said there's nothing wrong, and advise that they updated our software 6 months later we are stuck Out of warranty with a TV that will do this once or twice a day
my question is , im sure this is common problem so why dont the philips repairers know of this and FIX it while the product is under warrnaty , and not say theres nothing wrong with it..

This evening we were watching TV then suddenly it turned itself off. We tried to switch it back on, the blue light comes on for about 5 seconds then the TV is off again (no standby light, no sound, no picture). Is there anything we do? We would really appreciate your help on this matter. Model number: 42PF9966/12.

I am from Australia and this TV is a dud. We purchased it 12 months ago and it has been to repair twice. It is doing the same as the above message. Prior to this the screen would half, horizontally, go black or white with coloured vertical lines. Never buy another of these.

Most Samsung Smart TVs have a jog control (joystick) located underneath either in the middle, right or left side. When you find it, push and hold the center button to power on your TV. To power off your TV, push the center button, a pop-up menu appears.

Is there power to the receptacle it's plugged into?
Is it a GFI receptacle if so has it switched off? It could need resetting.
Are you turning it on at the remote? Try turning it on from the TV itself. Maybe the remote is not operating properly.
Do a hard reset to the TV first, and check. To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. This procedure will make it a hard reset.
If it do not help you, check the infrared emission to the remote control. Check it with fresh batteries. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. Hi, have you tried pressing the TV button that is under the On/Off button on top right hand side of remote control? Some times its possible to accidently press the DVD or VCR controls and this by-passes the TV as a remote? Another cause can be a poor or low battery in the remote itself. If you have no luck let me know & we can try some more things, however, I have heard that The On/Off Switch on the TV can be a problem. Goodluck, Jon..
did you try new batteries in the remote? if the tv has buttons on the side and one of them being power di you try to push that? did you push tv power or cable power holding the buttons longer? those things might work.
1. Press and hold "Menu" and "Channel+" on the TV. (do not use the remote)
2. Using the other hand, press the Power button.
3. A small screen should appear in the top left part of the screen.
4. Using the remote, select "Memory Recall" and Enter.
5. Power off and reboot the TV and Computer.
6. Run channel auto-scan to regain the picture.

On the right side of the tv bazel frame have manual buttons,like a power button,like 2 channels buttons one for up and one for down and a Meneu button.Push the tv manual power button,ur tv should have power and tv will be on.Or try website like Remotes.com to buy a new remote same as ur original tv remote.
