The monitor is about to go bad. Replace it. Borrow a monitor from a family member, neighbor or friend just to see if the flickering stops. If it does stop your monitor is bad. If the borrowed monitor flickers, you will need to replace your Video Card in the computer.

Testimonial: "I called Dell customer support, and they said they will replace it. It is, indeed, going "bad", but I've only had it for a little less than a year. I didn't know they were made to last for such a short period of time!"

Laptop monitor flickering

You could have a faulty ribbon video cable or a loose video connection to the motherboard. Reseat the video cable connection to the motherboard.
To get to this connector you most likely need to remove the keyboard to get access to this connector.

Screen flickering

Not likely a bad monitor...
The monitor cable on the back of the computer is loose.

Could also be the screen setting that is difficult to achieve and maintain.

If the cable is already tight on both ends, you might try a lower resolution setting for the monitor.

1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop
2. Go to "Properties" on the drop-down menu
3. Select the "Settings" tab
4. Slide the Resolution knob to the left a little (1024x768 or 800x600) and press [OK]

Hope this helps

Dell monitor is flickering

If you have another computer, try hooking to it and see if it flickers on it too.
If you hit Ctl-Alt-Delete and choose Task Manager, does the box flicker there?.
Adjust the monitor ratio in the Display Settings/Display/ Display Adapter Properties, Monitor Tab, see drop down (increase screen refresh ratio to higher number).

Screen flickers when volume is high

sounds like the shielding in the cable could be the problem or the vid card might not be seated properly. It would not be a driver issue.

Distorted or skewed image on monitor. Issue: Distorted or skewed image on monitor.
Cause: This issue can occur from any of the below possibilities.
  1. Windows issue.
  2. Loose or defective cable.
  3. Refresh rate issue
  4. Interference.
  5. Bad monitor.
Solution: Windows Issue If your monitor has a proper display until it gets into Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP please see document CH000121 for software or setting related issues.
Loose or defective cable You may receive a distorted image when the cable is loose or defective. Disconnect the video cable going from the back of the computer and verify that no pins are bent, burnt or broken. Once verified re-connect the monitor cable.
Refresh rate issue If the refresh rate is not properly set the monitor may have a wavy or an appearance that lines are going down or across the monitor slowly or fast. This may also cause a flickering affect. Additional information about how to change the refresh rate can be found on document CH000558.
Interference A distorted image can be caused by magnetic or other types of interference. Verify no speakers, fans or other magnetic devices are close to the monitor.
Bad Monitor If the above possibilities have been checked it is likely that the monitor is bad. To verify this it is recommended that the monitor be temporarily disconnected and then connected to another computer. This can be a friends computer, a work computer, and/or a computer at a service center. You can also help verify a defective monitor by connecting another monitor to your computer. Note: Connecting your possibly defective monitor to another computer will in no way harm the other computer.
