I've had the headset for several months and it's worked fine. Normally when I use the mute button on the side, a red LED flips on indicating that the mic is muted. For some reason this LED just randomly decided to stop turning on when I went to record something in MSN Messenger (first time doing it in a long time) - it was working fine while using Skype minutes before that.
The mic still mutes, the LED just doesn't indicate it anymore, which is a big problem the way I use the headset. I haven't done anything that could possibly have physically damaged the headset in between it working and deciding to not work, and LED don't just burn out like that. I've restarted my computer several times and moved the headset to different USB ports to no effect.

Check your USB port where the wireless dongle is connected, changing the port may help. You can also try the hard reset on the headset. Look for a tiny pin hole and push the end of a paper clip into the hole, you should feel a soft click. Hold the clip there for about 10 seconds. If that doesn't help you may need to re-install the device by going disconnecting the headset the go into device manager and uninstall it. Then reconnect the headset and see if the computer recognizes it. I would also re-load the software if it came with any.
Plug the USB connector into an available USB port. • Check your computer's volume level. • Check if your computer's volume is muted. • Check your operating system's audio input and output settings. • Check the headset's volume and mute settings. • Restart computer.
I've had this happen twice with Logitech headsets and believe it has to do with the cheap/fine wire they use in the cables. I suspect that a good tug on the cable will snap the wire or some other internal connection.
