My TomTom GO 730 has the option of sending instructions and music through the FM radio. I set the radio and gps to the same station. It does connect (there is a sample music that plays through the radio when it is connected), but I don't hear anything after that, i.e., I don't get any of the spoken directions through the radio.

  • andersont2 Nov 18, 2008

I've tried that. It disconnects (I hear static on the radio), then when I reconnect, I get the sample music. I press the 'done' button. When i press the directions area on the screen to hear the last instruction, all I get is the volume slider. I don't hear instructions over the radio. All I ever seem to get over the radio is the sample music. Is there some other setting that is causing problems?

You don't have 'read street names' checked. Is that an issue? I am at work right now, so I won't be able to try this solution for a while, but I'm confused as to why the read street names and read foreign ... is not checked. (I have all of these read options checked.)

Simply select the FM Modulator option, set the frequency, tune your car radio in, then you've got your TomTom as loud as you want - great for convertibles or noisy Commercials and Diesels

Also click on the link for full feature of you device :

When the tom tom 730 is turned on and has a route set it keeps canging screens back to the menu and selecting the topright hand option continuously. whats wrong with the unit??

I have had the same problem with this model of TomTom. Called the company and they sent me a new one. Same thing wrong with the new one they sent. The one technician said it is a problem with the application loaded onto the unit. Haven't found a fix for it yet, and they won't send another model, just the same one over and over.

Go 730 not sending a fm signal

Hi,

If you have made a recent update this may be the reason you may have lost your FM transmission!!

Tom Tom disabled silent FM transmission on these units to comply with the law in certain countries which prohibit these FM transmissions. Later updates configured the units to output lower strength FM transmissions.

There is a possible workaround for this - see this link for a discussion on the issue.
http://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-go-630-720-720t-730-730t-740/19436-go-730-lost-fm-transmission-after-map-update.html

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa

No desk dock came with our tomtom, spoke with Sears person and they said to contact you.

Tomtoms usually use a mini-usb connector. So you should be able to use a mini-usb to usb cable instead of docking station

How to set up fm transmitter for sanyo gps nvn-4370

At the main menu press settings
press FM Transmitter
Turn transmitter on by pressing off. Will change to On
Press the Frequency button. Than change the frequency to one that doesnt have a radio station.
All sounds from the GPS will now be transmitted to the frequency set. Make sure your FM radio is set to the same frequency.

With my one vehicle this option does not work very well & is full of static because my radio entenna is at the rear of the car. The GPS only transmits a couple of feet.
