New battery HP g61 is fully charged but not working \

I just bought a brand new Li-Ion battery. I charged it and let it drain (although I shouldn't have to do this for Li-Ion batteries, only Li-Cd). It worked properly, holding a charge for 2 days and now when I put the power adapter the laptop shuts off immediately.

Maybe the AC Adapter Power Cord is not working. If you can't get on the laptop with the power cord then it is bad and the battery might be drained so you have no power source to power up the laptop.
If the laptop works only off the Power Cord and the batteryis not charging, then the battery is dead.

To check to make sure the Power Cord is working remove the battery and let thelatop run for 10 minutes or so.

To check to see if the battery has any charge left in it put the battery in andremove the power cord. If it won't boot or shuts down then the battery is deadand needs to be replaced if the power cord is ok.

SOURCE: My HP Pavillion laptop g61 wont turn on or off.

I had trouble looking up that model on the HP page, but you should check this page and see if this model is affected by this NVidia litigation. If it is, you can get it fixed/replaced on NVidia's dime.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Now some time last year

These devices are more like cellphones. You charge it when it needed some charging. Once full, you remove it from the main plug and use the battery. If you do otherwise, it'll shorten the lifespan of the battery.

Running programs themselves do not directly cause damage to the physical device. They may form as one of the elements that can cause, say your processor to work harder and therefore needing more power from the battery. But apart from that I think it's wrong to say that programs themselves were the caused of the battery failure.

DC B101 charger. Why doesn't it charge?

May be It can mean your LI ION battery is out of range by the deep discharged protection. !!! your charger is not defect and your battery also not in 80% of this cases you are certainly not the only one with this problem . i think your battery was or is new or for a long time not used have i right ? or it was long lay down in the stockroom by the store before it was selling as i know from experience it by the brand Hitachi its fast much allways going that way. in priority the little 10 volt batteries made of li-ion can have on stock for 5 years its out of range , but i send it back and for service they come back full loaded again and full of capacity. its fully under service and they know that problem, there are no costs as all people with Li Ion tools to sell should know this or asked by purchase by some companies to load it full before buying a new tool with li-ion batteries because it prevents a disappointment and a drive to the shop again.
Note to control it that way 80 % in case of this the charger is not defect ask someone or your dealer or friends to test that charger with a new or other functional or regular used Dewalt fitting li ion battery , then you know for shure that its realy not defect, but your battery can be boosted with a special cadex charger if its was little used but i have made in experienced an discovery (but only on Dewalt li ion batteries..because there are only 3 poles on Dewalt accu s to find its missing that special grooved protection circuits with multiple contacts inside on the li ion batteries as to find by all other regulary brands too find) used a simply auto charger 12 volts 4 amp placed + and - corresponding the pins + and - and for 20 seconds because its li-ion (always by unknown experiments wear safety glasses) under the load and repeat that 3 times on a 14,4 volt li ion battery and after i switched that battery fast after that short boost again in the original loader and if the lamp on the charger was again been continues red thats mean it was reborn new and accept its loading again in the official dewalt loader and it was be accepted from that time again without repeating the same problem after fully loading it again. its made me happy but only by Dewalt was this experiment functional simply + on + and - on -
Beware do not this on other brands like Panasonic Makita Hitachi or other Brands milwaukee to do this li ion action because its has no cure wasting not your time and do not experiment full on the separate cells it can made great explosions without electronic technical impossible because of complex protections that are marketing technical made ONLY by special CADEX chargers are used for it to boost it so it will be again fully functional again .

Li ION is not comparable with Nickel Cadmium or nickel metal hydride, the first must be trained for capacity and the second not but do not load nickel metal hydride batteries in the freezing cold most outside or in cellars the lasting life of that batteries is very short after that . the capaciti will loose and is not coming back and is very bad to boost., Nickel Cadmium is heavy and great instead of Nickel MH . and material is expensiver the only good improvement of NI MH is the weight and the building material, and no capacity memory if its used under normal temperatures. above 0 degrees .
Li-ION hold them as much on the charger change both fast after use will long last the life of the battery.

Looking for the longest battery life laptop ?

We’ve yet to see a Windows laptop with battery life longer than 5~7 hours, unless we add an extended battery to the system. But when hpand dell launched its new series of laptops last week, one big push wasfor longer battery life.

When you purchase your notebook, charge the battery to 100 percent, discharge it completely, and then fully charge it to 100 percent againto help the battery remember exactly how much electrical charge it canhold. From then on, you’ll never need to completely discharge the laptop battery again, but always make sure when charging it that you let it reach 100 percent. DeHoop told us to “remember to plug in the laptop AC adapter(or dock/port replicator) whenever you get a chance. Most notebookswill recharge quickly.” Salinas had another tip for your batteries:“Keep them cool. Exposure to high temperatures can be a battery’s worstenemy,” he said

Hope the list can give you some help when you purchase a laptop or battery:

How to CHARGE CORDLESS DRILL

First, you should know your battery is a Ni-CD / NI-Mh or Li-ion battery. If it is a Ni-CD / NI-Mh battery, please fully discharged and fully charged it to prevent "Memory effect".

If it is a Li-ion battery, please charge it before you use it.

Please keep in mind that, please fully charge a battery when you store it. And, charge it again every two months.

If your old battery is dead, you can replace it with a new one. Ryobi Power Tool Battery

How many hours we should charge the battery fist time Nokia-2700

There are basically 3 types of chemicals currently being used for cell phone and laptop batteries. Ni-cad, Ni-mh and Li-ion. There is a fourth makineg its way in Li-ion polymer. A couple things are consistent for all types of batteries no matter what chemical is inside. You must initially give the battery a 12-14 hour charge on the home charger. (Don't use a cigarette adapter for the first charge. This conditions the battery and don't take it off the charger that first time even if the charging indicator says it's full after 3 hours. Also the manufacturer's also state to run it thru 3 charge cycles. What that mean's is that you fully charge and fully drain 3 times. 1 full charge + 1 full drain = 1 charge cycle. Here's where the way you charge the battery starts to differ.

Ni-cad: Mostly only on older devices, has a "memory" effect, should be drained before a full charge is put on it, should be removed after overnight charge or can be overcharged and burnt out.

Ni-mh: Still used for some devices, has slight memory effect but not enough to have to fully drain before the recharge, should not be consistently left on charger after full charge that can eventually burn out battery and shorten usage time.

Li-ion and Li-ion polymer: Used on a lot of newer devices, has no "memory" effect, should be recharged as often as possible, actually likes to be charged and draining it regularly can cause the usage time to be shortened, can NEVER be overcharged so whenever you're near a charger put it on there. Besides those benefits a li-ion battery is lighter and smaller but the chemical can hold more charge than Ni-cad and Ni-mh.

So the one reply to your question said to error on the side of draining the li-ion batteries. This is incorrect information. You want to charge the battery before it gets below a 20% charge. Also batteries will not go bad from accidentally doing the incorrect charging procedure here and there but normally follow the correct procedure. One last note try to use the home charger more often than the cigarette lighter charger for best long term results. Cigarette lighter chargers do not give a full charge (about 95%) which in the long run can damage any type of battery listed.

I put a new battery in my camera charged it. Used the camera till the battery ran down. Now it won't charge . This is the second battery I've bought every time I try to charge it won't charge.

It takes over 7 hours to charge, so did you leave it charge overnight?

But while the original battery is chargable, disposable replacements are not. Here is what the manual says:

{ ...
The supplied battery is a Li-ion battery. It charges while in the camera using the supplied charger. The camera can also use a Duracell CP1 disposable Li battery, which has the same form factor as the supplied Li-ion cell. HP claim the Li-ion cell will provide power for approximately 200 shots under "average" use and 100 shots with "extensive use of the LCD and flash".
Charge time for the battery using the supplied charger and in-camera charging is 5-7 hrs for a fully depleted battery. In the optional docking station, charging takes 2.5-3.5 hrs and using the optional rapid charger, charging takes 1-2 hrs. ... }

Charging a Garmin Nuvi 260W

Generally most batterys are left on the charger overnight, thats a good way to ensure a full charge, but as you will be using it in your car, it doesn't matter much as power is always available.

To ensure best possible battery life when you have a brand new battery, charge it fully and then drain it almost to 0% Draining most batterys into 0% will be harmfull instead of helpful, I assume the nuvi uses a Li-ion battery so draining it fully is not a good idea, drain it almost fully and then charge it fully.

And you are good to go, repeat the process if you leave the unit unused for a month or two for best battery life.

Thank you,

Problem charging makita batteries 18v li-ion

Unfortunately, Makita’s li-ion battery packs have a design flaw. After having the same problem with my two batteries, I took it apart and saw the problem immediately. You see each battery pack has ten li-ion battery cells and a circuit board with a memory chip witch holds the charging history of the battery pack. But that memory chip constantly draws power from 2 of the 10 batteries. The current it draws is very small but if you consider it over 8 month or more, the power drain becomes very significant. You end up with a battery pack with 8 still fully charged battery cells and 2 drained battery cells. When you put this battery pack in the charger, it detects weak battery cells, assumes they are defective and refuses to charge. To avoid this problem you should charge your battery pack often, even if you haven't used it, every two months should be ok.
I suspect that Makita doesn’t make these battery packs, they make power tools, good ones too. Buy Makita should definitely have a few words with their supplier before they become a liability!
