Toner cartridge end of life message

I'm getting an "end of life black toner cartridge" message, and the printer cancels the printjob, but the printer won't let me access the replace cartridge option on the dropdown menu. Without access to the replace cartridge option, I can't get the printer to recognize a new cartridge, so it won't print at all. I've tried switching the cartridge anyway, but I can't get it to recognize the switch. I've also tried turning it off and on, pulling and replacing another cartridge, unplugging and replugging the machine, unhooking and rehooking the USB, but nothing will let me convince the printer to recognize/accept the new cartridge. Thanks for any assistance.

Toner Life End message on DCP-7040

If your cartridge has a lever on the left side near the rear, it needs to be reset, and there's a lever inside on the left that can stick and cause that error. You need to wiggle and pull that lever until it moves freely again.

How to get ride of Toner life end message

You could try resetting the toner cartridge settings. OPen the machines front door where you would replace the cartridges. On the top panel you will see a "clear/back" button. Press it and on the display you will see a reset menu come up. Arrow to each one and hit the OK button. Press "1" to reset. Once you have gone through all close the front door of the machine and press stop to bring the display back to normal.

Hope this helps.

Dcp 7020 and 7040 toner life end message premature, need override

When the Toner Life End LED flips on, requires you to replace the cartridge, even when there's still toner left in the cartridge. The machine detects end of life by shining a light through from one side to the other.
To circumvent the detection mechanism, remove the cartridge and put a piece of masking tape over or jam a little bit of paper into the clear opening/circle on the right side of the toner cartridge, and then pop the cartridge back in. Eventually, you'll start seeing streaks, and then you'll know that the cartridge is truly empty.

Toner life ends

There are two units in the machine, a toner cartridge and a drum unit. The toner clips into the drum and then is inserted in the machine. If you changed the toner and you still get this message, you may have a bad or damaged toner detection sensor.

Toner end life

There are silver wire contacts on the left and right that are spring-loaded and touch on copper tabs on the cartridge. They may not be making proper contact. Wiping with some contact cleaner ona cloth may help, or failing that try brightening the surfaces with some fine Scotchbrite pad to help them make proper contact.
