Video problem on my Dell Dimension 4600 PC, HELP ASAP.

Alright, so one day I went to use my computer. I turned on my computer and the screen showed the Dell bootup screen and the Windows XP loading screen, but it would start blinking white and would go fully black and stay black with no video what so ever. I am sure there is nothing wrong with my monitor because I tested it on another computer in my house.

I reformatted my computer and everything was fine, when I installed my video driver and changed the resolution my screen went black again. My computer was running fine but my screen went black and the power button went orange as if my computer was on standby. I was thinking this maybe a video problem but I'm not sure.

I have already contacted Dell support but they kept repeating the same things over and over again and never helped. I am planning to reformat my computer again and I wanted to get this problem resolved before it comes up again.

Thanks, Jeremy.

The resolution set by default when you load your graphics driver is outside the range of your monitors capability.

try starting in safe mode then adjust your resolution to 640 by 480 then restart.
if this works, adjust upwards to 1024 by 768
then up again till the screen blanks.
when it does, dont panic, wait 20 seconds and the settings will restore - you then have the optimum settings for your monitor.

good luck

Change the VGA cable from the monitor, first but sounds like it's the video card that's failed. I would check the monitor with another computer to make sure it's not that.

My Dell Dimension 4600 monitor has gone completely black though it shows it booting.

Start your computer in "Safe Mode".
Change the screen-resolution to 800 by 600 at 60 Hertz.
Shutdown, and restart.
If you eventually see your "wallpaper", try setting your screen-resolution to 1024 by 768, and "test" it. If OK, try setting your screen-resolution to 1280 by 1024, and 'test" it.

Monitor and Mouse not working

GGGA indicates that the power on self test completed successfully.

GGGG indicates that the had off from the BIOS to the Windows Operating system was completed.

If you are not getting any video, and have an expansion video card, reseat the card. If you still don't have video, remove the card, and connect to the motherboard integrated video port (May have a black plastic cover on it)
