Toshiba D-VR610KU recorded disc won't play in my Daewoo DVD5800

I have recorded and finalized two Verbatim DVD-R discs on my new Toshiba DVR610KU . These were home movies which I transferred from an 8mm camcorder to DVD through two jacks on the front of the unit. They playback fine on the Toshiba recorder, but will not playback on my Daewoo DVD5800 player. It will show occasional "freeze frames" of video and audio. I tried changing my region code from US=1 to All=9 on the Daewoo player, but it didn't help. The player is five years old, but I was told the DVD-R discs would work on older players.
Toshiba customer assistance was unable to help me.

What are the compatible types of DVD's that the Daewoo DVD5800 player is supposed to play? Is DVD-R among the compatible types? Try playing the new recordings on a computer that has a DVD drive, or a friend's computer.

SOURCE: dvd "unknown disc" message coming up

Have you tryed to use a lens cleaning disc yet. The laser lens on these players and recorders alike, must have the lens cleaned every oince in awhile. If that does not help, most likly you have a bad laser pickup assembly and you will need to replace the plaer as to have that repaiered, you could buy a new unit. Good Luck

SOURCE: ILO DVDR05 recorded DVD's freeze

Burn your DVDs at tow positions slower than what the system and discs say. It sounds as if there is a huge amount of error being introduced during the write process. Unfortunately, the old discs can only be recovered with an external program like Zero Assumption Recovery or the like....accordianman

SOURCE: unable to "dub" my 8mm tapes onto DVD-R using my Sylvania DV90VE

From comments posted on the Internet by other Sylvania users with a similar problem, I  learned that I had to use a 4X DVD-R (the ones I had been trying to record on were 16X). And I found that Office Depot sells the sometimes hard-to-find 4X format, so that's where I'm headed right after lunch.  Thanks.

Anything I have recorded onto DVD from TV wont play on any other machines. It will only play on this machine I recorded on. It is the same make and model mentioned here.

If you're not using DVD+RW blanks (VERBATIM work fine), then try them. DVD-RW blanks will not play on any machine but the one that recorded the disk (according to the manual.)

I have toshiba dvd recorder, the problem is the recorded dvd cannot play with other player. Do I have to return this recorder as it just a week away since i buy it

Hi there,
Make sure you Finalize the disc when you are done recording, otherwise it won't be read on other players or computers. To do this you go to Setup> Disc and choose Finalize. It takes a few minutes per disc, don't turn off the player while it it finalizing. In the same Setup menu you can choose an option to autofinalize the disc when you are done recording, so you do not have to to it manually each time.
