All plugs and connections are in and correct but when i use my scanner to scan someting it just comes out as big black square, somebody sugested that the bulb was gone if this is the case how do i open it to put new bulb in and where do i purchase this particular bulb from thanks christine.
It quite simple to verify if the lamp is out. Just leave the the cover open and then switch the scanner on. The lamp should light up as the scanner initializes. Note if the full length of the lamp lights up. If it lights up only partially, then the lamp needs to be replaced. I doubt if the lamp is the problem though.
It is quite simple to get to the lamp but, you do need to be a little tech-savvy and own a soldering iron. Disconnedt the mains from the scanner. Turn over the scanner; the top is secured to the bottom by two recessed clips at the front button; release them with a screw-driver. Unsolder the two ends of the lamp. A new lamp can be purchased at a shop that sells computer spare parts. It's similar to the lamps that are used as back-lights in LCD screens. They come in different lengths so make sure you get one of similar length and solder it back in place.
