It quite simple to verify if the lamp is out. Just leave the the cover open and then switch the scanner on. The lamp should light up as the scanner initializes. Note if the full length of the lamp lights up. If it lights up only partially, then the lamp needs to be replaced. I doubt if the lamp is the problem though.

It is quite simple to get to the lamp but, you do need to be a little tech-savvy and own a soldering iron. Disconnedt the mains from the scanner. Turn over the scanner; the top is secured to the bottom by two recessed clips at the front button; release them with a screw-driver. Unsolder the two ends of the lamp. A new lamp can be purchased at a shop that sells computer spare parts. It's similar to the lamps that are used as back-lights in LCD screens. They come in different lengths so make sure you get one of similar length and solder it back in place.

Keep getting error message 100-2105 when I try to scan

I had the same problem. The icon disappeared. Then the 100-2105 error message came up.

The solution on the kodak web site worked for me.

http://support.en.kodak.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1276/kw/ERROR:%20100-2105/selected/true

From
your computer desktop, select Start > Run.
Type %windir%, then click OK.
Double-click the twain_32 folder.
Right-click the kodak folder, then select Delete.
Insert the KODAK All-in-One Printer Software CD into the CD drive, then go to D: > printer > scanner.
NOTE: The CD is indicated by D: above. The CD drive may be a different letter on your computer.
Double-click aioscannr.msi, then follow the instructions to remove it.
Go to D: > printer > scanner, then double-click aioscannr.msi, and follow the instructions to install the file.
Start Home Center Software.
Select Scan Documents and Pictures.
Scan a document.
If the error continues using a Wi-Fi connection, make sure you select the correct printer in Home Center Software.
If the error continues using a USB connection, see the following section to reinstall the printer.

Scanner operates but only black scan appears

I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.

If you try to scan in another peice of software is the image still black? Try using Microsoft paint to scan a document or picture in with. If you get a good image then the software your using to scan with needs to be corrected its probably a setting in the software.

If you scan with another piece of software like microsoft paint and the image is still black then my guess is that your imaging lens is defective on your scanner and will need to be replaced. If that is the case its probably cheaper to buy a new scanner then to have it replaced.

I hope this helps you out.

I can't scan an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet on one page-it creates two or three pictures. How do I get it to scan to one page?

Hi there. It sounds like you are not correctly setting up your page for scanning. Are you just putting the page in and hitting scan or are you going through the scan "wizard?" You need to let the scanner know what you are printing (color pic, black and white pic, text doc, etc.) and how big it is. Let me know what happens.

Bad contrast with scanner

Last things first: NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE.

That's the way HP does things. There are no rheostats or pots to adjust. It's all done electronically now, with chips and things.

You never said how it does with color or greyscale photos or drawings.

As for the RGB=(64,64,64), that's about right for the scan picture settings and the mixed (text and graphics) setting, and is particularly true for color picture settings. Have you tried using the setting for drawings (or line art), specifically greyscale drawings? Usually the greyscale lineart or drawing setting will render black text. You might also try scanning with the settings set for Text. If the greyscale drawing settings or greyscale text settings do not produce black text, try reinstalling your software and drivers.

If the contrast stays the same for all settings after reinstalling the software and drivers, and if it doesn't scan color and greyscale pictures correctly, then it sounds like your scanner is going bad.

As for the scans you've already done, you can darken the text by taking it into a photo editor, such as Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop, and adjust the contrast and brightness to get the effect you desire.

Slide scanning with Epson Perfection 2450

I don't know if this is truly a "solution" or not, but I get the same thing on my HP 4850 scans. After scanning, I just crop the pictures to remove the black borders. Can you do that?
