My battery light is flashing orange (4 times) then green (1 time). The laptop will run on either ac or battery power. When I unplug the laptop, it says I have full power on my battery (ie 4hours) but the light won't stop flashing in this sequence.
The LED sequence indicates a failure in the battery. (Like one cell has low charge) As long as the overall battery output meets the minimum for system operation, the battery will work.
The average lifespan for a Portable battery is about 500 discharge/recharge cycles (1 to 2 years) anything after that is a bonus
Replace the battery, issue will go away
Hi,
You may need to update the firmware (BIOS) of your computer. You may check also with your computer manufacturer if your system still under warranty because you might have a problem with the motherboard.
Please provide me the following information.
Type of system:
Operating System (XP, Vista) :
Keep me posted.
Thanks.
I have a slightly different problem. When I plug my power cord in it says "plugged in, charging" and "you may want to consider replacing your battery" then the percentage hits 91% and then the battery indicator on the laptop flashes from orange to green. I just bought this laptop a year ago from best buy and long story short, it was under warranty when I was having a different problem and best buy fixed it but when they gave it back to me I started having this battery problem. My warranty was up (how convenient) and they want to charge my 200 to fix it! I told them they screwed up my laptop and put it in a worse condition then when I gave it to them and they keep telling me that they'll fix. . . .just for an arm and a leg. The battery should be good, just not sure that the deal is

This means something's wrong with your battery. Usually it means you need a new battery.
How long does the battery last, if you use the laptop without the AC adapter?

I have had three different laptops, last one an XPS from DELL which did the same thing. Replacing the battery solved all three laptops. How old is the battery you have in there now?

I have a dell inspiron 6000 running XP my battery light flashes orange 4 times a then green once, it seemed to start during a system disk check, the check took all day and I noticed the flashing ornge light when I came home. Where can I try to update the bios? or do I need a new battery?
thanks
yeah i get the same problem. i think the battery just is old, as ive had it for 4 years or so. when i unplug the laptop the battery dies really fast. i think the battery just needs to be changed.
I have this same problem! My Dell Latitude D610 was working great, then one day I plugged it in to the adapter to charge, and an error message came up. It said I needed to switch to a higher adapter or my computer would run slower and my battery wouldn't charge. But the adapter is only a couple months old, and my computer runs fine when it is plugged in, so I know there isn't anything wrong with the power supply. But even when it's plugged in its battery light flashes four times orange, once green, and repeats. The second I unplug the computer from the power supply it shuts off. If my battery were dead, wouldn't the computer refuse to work even when plugged in? I thought the power supply went through the battery??
Hi,
I am hoping some expert in this form will help me with their great advice.
I have a dell inpiron 6000 laptop and my battery light keep flashing 4 orange and 1 green sequence. Its been like this since more then 6 months and I was under the impression that my battery is not holding charge and is completely dead. I was using my computer on direct ac power since then but just now I bought a new battery.
Now, the problem is, even if i plug in power supply, the laptop is not charging the battery and the lights keep flashing in the same sequence. With power source plugged in the icon in the system tray shows "0% remaining (charging)"
I thought getting a new battery will help solve the light problem and I should be able to use on a battery power.
I made sure that the battery is properly put in place and I plugged and unplugged couple of times.
Any advice what I should do now?
Thanks for any reply in advance
