Sound with HDMI but no video

I recently bought a Sony blu ray 550 to go with a Sony XBR tv and a Denon receiver AVS-2807. I know the receiver is old in technology years, but I was waiting out the blu ray and HD war. I hooked up the first HDMI from the dvd player into slot #1 on the receiver and the second HDMI from the monitor out slot on the receiver to the tv. I changed all of the settings on the receiver to HDMI. I don't know what else to try, I don't want to lose the 7.1 audio feature. If I hook up the dvd directly to the tv can I still get the 7.1 audio?

No sound from Russound ss-4 after connecting to BACK surround speaker connections on the 2807.

Check the speaker setup configuration in the setup menu. Many times the surround back speaker terminals can be assigned to something else like zone 2. They may just be turned off.

Can't get the sound to work on my TV using the Denon AVR-2807

In the 2807 the HDMI out is a video out only. Audio is not processed through the HDMI output.
If you are using speakers it is best to adjust the playback modes to stereo if you are annoyed with surround sound modes.
Please comment if I helped.

Lost picture on my AVR-2807

There is a video select button on the receiver. Press it and it toggles through all of the video sources. Keep pressing it until the display says video=source.

Loss of sound on the Denon AVR 2807 a/v surround receiver when I turn on and off lights in my house

Finally the problem was with the HDMI cable. When I pushed it in on the TV set the problem disappeared. It seems the connections must be quite firm on the HDMI cables otherwise anything may interfere to the sound.
