Check that the lock mechanism is not already in the closed position
use a round bar under the latch and pull it into the open position as you press the door handle

SOURCE: ba falcon heater

You see ford charge 8 hours labour for replacing the shaft!
A job that at most should take 3 hours. I would hunt around and get some quotes from a Radiator Repair shop or Air con specialist rather then Ford dealerships.

SOURCE: BA Falcon 'door open' light is on, can't lock

Hi I have the same problem on my BA XT Falcon
Strangely it only happens after it's rained on my car (usually overnight) I then notice that the drivers lock is up and will not lock again until a nice sunny day comes and I leave all doors wide open for hours and hours!! Then all of a sudden once closing all doors normally the little dash door light turns off, and I can again lock the doors
?
Since it rained all last night here, guess what? It happened again!
So I've checked everywhere and cleaned and you name it, but nothing, I'm positive that when a warm sunny day comes again though, all will be ok.
Most annoying issue ever.
Where is this tiny bit of water that's causing this?
And which door?? Can I just disconnect one door at a time? I don't know it's driving me crazy!!!!

SOURCE: The Driver's side door of

first make sure the bolts which hold the latch mechanism to the door are firmly screwed in. if that ain't it, remove the post which it clamps onto from the door jamb and switch it with one from a back door. close the back door firmly, lock it and never use it again. if that ain't it go to www.getsaturnparts.com and buy yourself a new door latch mechanism and pay an auto glass shop to put it in for you.

SOURCE: can i fix r/h/r door actuator on ba falcon as only 3 lock

You can fix anything if you apply a bit science like open the door take the panel off and see if you have power to the solonoid as most times its the cable in the rubber trunking from dsoor to the pillar as the wires break inside here
