Phantom battery won't charge

I plug in the battery to charge and let it charge overnight. when i disconnect the charger and turn the key, the battery indicator says empty. The headlight comes on very weakly. Scooter will not go anywhere. Scooter is a floor model and brand new to me. It had one charge on the battery about 4 years ago or so then was driven to the front of the store and it just sat there ever since. Need new battery?

Well, Im planning to sell it. What do you think a fair price would be with needing a new battery. It is in pretty much flawless condition. Would like a quick sell so....what price is good? Thanks for all the help.

A little extra info. The light on the charger when plugged in to the battery is green. I think this indicates full charge. I think the light was green the very first time I plugged it in so, I know for sure that the batteries were not full after sitting for that many years. Anyways, if I plug the charger into the scooter and turn the key on, the "dash" light comes on, the battery indicator indicates full and the headlight is bright and the horn works. When I go to pull the throttle, the chair doesn't move.

Ok, well, I replaced both batteries. The old ones were toast. Now there's a new problem. The scooter goes fast in reverse but barely goes at all forward. Not sure what the problem is. Since this scooter sat on the sales floor at Rite Aid for a few years, Im sure plenty of people/kids have messed with it. The speed selection knob turns all the way around, not sure if that is normal. Can anyone think of anything I can check? The new batteries are fully charged and it is indicated as so on the scooters dash. Thanks sooooooo much for any help you can provide.

Hello

Are you sure your battery charger is working correctly. Have you tried it on another battery? Possibly, there is a wiring problem, or your battery is the type that needs distilled water - Try another known good and charged battery with your scooter before purchasing a new one to ensure that the wiring is not faulty.

SOURCE: Battery will not charge

Those batteries are probably dead, you have to charge them every so often if you are not using your scooter or chair. You also have to move it so the tires don't wear down and go flat.

SOURCE: batteries won't charge

Hi. Sounds like there is a faulty connection somewhere between the charger and the batteries. Are the batteries connected correctly. The charger uses the voltage level in the batteries to regulate itself. If there is a faulty connection, then the charge will not operate. Use a multi-meter to check if the batteries are connected correctly. There should be 24 to 26 volts across both batteries.
This fault can also be caused by a faulty charger socket. Check for any signs of melting or heat damage. There might also be a disconnected wire in the plug on the charger itself.Good luck. Neil.

SOURCE: I just got my drive

I think you should try to leave the key into on position ..cause it may have a switch off function and not get the power flow right ..If in the manual says the fuse need to be on o position for charging ..leave it so ..if it says different set it on the correct position ..
The idea is to try all possibilities cause there is nothing you can do wrong ...when it starts getting the current it means it is the correct procedure..I found nothing about this specified but the key thing make sense somehow ..and it seam to be the only thing left to do ..Usually on these things , when it is plugged to charge it should indicate the charging ..and the led change color or lit the one indicating full only when it is ready for use...so .if the charging is not indicated without the key on ...it is a pertinent thought to consider to switch it on ..

2010 Hyundai Sonata - Radio Won't Turn Off, Dead Battery but Charger Says it's Full?

That battery charger is not any kind of battery tester, it can not say by its self good or bad battery. ever.
only load testers can or the below. (cranking tests)

it my get correct battery is low and needs to be charged
the charge can be used (good ones) force to charge the battery a 15amp charger is best, (2 hour can cure this)
after the battery is force charged or jump cable jump charged, the stater motor nmnow starts the engine
this act takes, 100 to 300 amps of current flow, and proves batter is both good and bad, or load test the battery in any
autostore.
do not leave cell phones connected when car is not running or soon.
the charge ports on my car , one is hot full time key off, so never leave things on any hot all the time power port.
next up is BCM games (facts of life) and worse now with 10 computer in cars.

The BCM brain the body brain , will go crazy when the battery does drain low (or battery bad) at near 10vdc
some electronics go dead or random. acts of crazy
all computers do that, as there, regulators chips go offline or bounce at the threshold of power loss,(weAk)
all computers (processors and micro controllers do that ) bad power DC.

test 1: is charge battery first fully, and start engine
battery voltage (a dmm meter) reads 13v to 15vdc, lower volts is bad alternator (or its 3 fuses blown) one of them.

test 2, for phantom drains test short version ask for 10- page versions.

KEY off, battery fully charged use a real battery charger, 15amps is good and forced to charge.
ammeter clamped to the battery PLUS lug wire large (a tool)
current flow key off spec max is 0.050amps (50mA) or less. over is called a phantom drain, (or current)
ok it fails
in the dark (totally) find lamps stuck on in the car ,every where. even under hood lamps ,glove box. etc.
the silly cell phone, uses 1 amp to charged 1000mA, and is 20 times over spec , key off so remove he silly phone.
cured? (a shocking discovery , LOL)
NO !
same ammeter showing the current way too high key off
NEXT:
pull fuses , 1 by1 , one out, see no drop, fuse back , next fuse. find the fuse that causes huge drop in current.

this finds the branch of the wiring tree that is overloaded.
most times this finds the path that is draining. (some alternators do this and fuse to it can not be found easy)

to go to the end run, ask, ( all electric tech know this process)
ask.

Samsung N145 Plus battery charge failure

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Wont start batteerry checked ok , if i jump it with cables it starts , but will not start again the next day

the battery may seem ok, but it's obviously discharging itself or not charging during riding.

Try this...charge the battery with a battery charger.
disconnect the charger, and put a volt meter on the battery.
Start the bike.
Rev up to 2000 RPM. If the voltage is not HIGHER than it was before starting the bike, there's something wrong with the charging circuit.
If it IS charging, turn the bike off, and disconnect the battery overnight.
If the bike will not start the next day after reconnecting the battery, the battery needs to be replaced.

If the battery is NOT charging at 2000 RPM, the charging circuit is bad, and is likely what is draining the battery overnight.

All that eans is that when you are charging the batteries you are unable to drive the chair. Its a safety feature to ensure that you won't accidently make the chair move with the charger plugged in. Just plug the charger into the charger port turn off the chair and then plug the charger into the wall charge overnight and in the morning unplug the charger from the wall and then from the joystick. Always have the charger off when plugging ang unplugging from the chair. With the M41 charger get a power strip with an on/off switch plug the charger into the strip and use the on/off switch to turn the charger on and off before you plug it into the chair Hope this helps you
