No audio on AVI files

I converted my Windows Media files to AVI because I was told that Archos will play those. A few work fine, but most do not play the audio. What's next? Thanks, George

Hi :

I would download virtualdub (free), install a divx convertor (free to some level), and input your original file in virtualdub (file-open file), check the video tab from VDUB, click compression, select divx, and save the file as an .avi file on harddisk of yr computer. If finished, check this avi file with a media player (winamp or so), see if it plays correctly, then transfer the file to your Archos. This will work.

I believe, when you converted, a stray codec was used for audio)

I have downloaded 5 movies in avi and dragged them onto my archos 5 (250 gb) when i go to play them they keep breaking up and unwatchable can you help

Hi,
You may want to change the format of the movies. The player may be able to play .avi files but sometimes it will just not play and changing the format may alleviate the problem. Follow these steps: - Follow this link and download youtube downloader free of charge http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=youtube+downloader&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows - After you have downloaded and installed it please open it and go to convert a video you have already downloaded. - Select the movie you want to convert and then convert to .mp4 which should play with anything - Wait for it to convert and then drag it to your archos 5.

I downloaded Play On to play Hulu and You Tube, but it won't play them on my Archos 605 wi fi 30 G.

with Archos Video Converter a multifunctional audio and video format converter can convert from video to video, audio and picture, especially convert AVI to MPEG, as well as audio to audio and picture to video. Besides work as an AVI converter, this video format converter supports nearly all popular video and audio formats.

It says it sdupports avi film files but it wont play when i have converted the films to avi it says file not supported

Try to download VLC media player on your computer and try to play with it. If that works, you can use VLC, or you can download the K-lite codec pack for free from the internet too.

What DVD video formats are supported by BBK? I need to copy video files from my PC to show on TV. PC shows these videos in Windows Media Player. The videos were taken by Cannon camera in "MOV" file format.

Supported Video formats:
VCD,SVCD,AVI
DIVX,JPG

As you see no support for mov files
You'll have to convert these mov files to avi...
Go to http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm and
download the Rad Videotools. This little program helps you convert
all your mov files to avi. Burn the avi files on a cd and you should be able to play them on your dvdplayer..

I can't play all AVI's on my Archos 605

Hi,

Yeah you need to go to the archos website and buy the cinema plug in (£14.99) if you want to play all. the only other option is to convert the avi files that you cant play. Also if you want to play any mpeg4 files and quite a few other files with different audio codecs you need the podcast plug in (again £14.99). This is the only way to be able to play everything on your archos without converting the files - it's a bit of a rip off as each set of plugins is specifically downloaded for a product key so you cant even get one from someone else - believe me I have tried for days to get them free!

Hope that helps!

Sync with Windows media player 11

Yes i know syncing is the easiest way to hook up archos to download files have you tried manually like drop & drag the files into the video folders? Some video formats work even in the new archos series some don't & you have to buy plugins. I personally didn't like using windows media player it reminds me too much of itunes

How to convert videos/movies on to my archos 605 media player? keep getting an error message

The archos will only play M-peg 4 type files unless you buy on of the plug ins, so the way round it is to crack a dvd using "dvd shrink" this will get round the copy protection then convert the cracked dvd to m-peg 4 im using "any video converter" tese programs can be downloaded free on the net. not sure if this is the easiest way but it works

Archos 704 Wifi - does not play AVI file until its full lentgh

I had the same issue.
The size of the AVI cannot exceed 1gb or the end of the movie will never play.

I had a movie that was 1,7gb. 2 hrs and 15 seconds.
The Archos recognized this as a 1.7gb file and 2:00:15 long.
As soon as the movie started, the time line bar at the bottom of the screen went from 2:00:15 to 1:10:25. Basically, it cut off the last 50 minutes of the movie.

I simply divide the movie into 1gb chunks.

I decrypt the DVD to the computer
Use Nero Recode to convert it to and MP4. Divide the movie into 1gb chunks and Maximize the Volume.
Use SUPER to convert it to an AVI / MPEG-4 / MP3.
Copy this to the Video folder of the Archos.

This is simply something that Archos does not want to admit is an issue. They want you to purchase the Cinema plugin.
