What kind of phones are they? If you're switching from your old iPhone to the new one, you can simply transfer contacts with the help of iTunes. You are able to make a backup for your old iPhone and then restore the new iPhone with iTunes. After restoring the new iPhone, you'll get contacts in new iPhone.

Go to contact settings then click IMPORT/EXPORT select export to SD on your old phone
Then copy that vcf file to your new phone and click on it that's it

if it has an SD card export your contacts to SD card then put another phone and import them

It depends on the model/make of the phone you have before, but you have a couple of options.

In your contacts, there should be a setting to back-up your contacts. From here, you'll need to choose to back them up to the device or the sim card. If you back-up to the sim card, it will probably limit the number of contacts you can save.

If the old phone is an Android device, you can select to back your contacts up to your google account, after which point, you can relog into your google account on the new phone and the contacts should automatically be synced with the new device.

If you do restore from a sim card, on the new phone, put the sim card into the phone, then go to your settings, within contacts, and import contacts from sim.

So, from the old phone "Export contacts to sim" and on the new phone "Import contacts from sim."

If your new and old phone are from the same brand/manufacturer, you should be able to transfer your numbers/contacts to the new phone using the software that came with your phone. If they are from different manufacturers, the only way to go about it is by synching your old phone to your outlook, then synch your microsoft outlook with your new phone.

On your old Nokia: 1.) Insert your new sim card into the Nokia, and start the phone. 2.) Go to your contact list. 3.) From the option list select "mark all". 4.) From the options list select "copy" then "to sim". 5.) Wait for it to complete, then power off the phone.
On your HTC Desire: 1.) Insert the new sim card (which was just in the Nokia) and power the phone on. 2.) Go to the "People" app. 3.) Press the "menu" button. 4.) Select "Import/Export". 5.) Select "Import from SIM card". 6.) Wait for it to finish the import. 7.) All your contacts have not been copied from one phone to the other.

Have you rung your service provider and activated your sim card? It is important to have the phone turned off while doing this. If you haven't changed your number, turn the old phone off too (just in case), and ring them to activate your new sim. You have not posted whether you are using your old or new sim, but judging by the other people with the same problem, this sounds like the case. They will want the serial number off the back of the sim card to do this.

Turn off the iPhone before inserting the sim, insert sim, turn on, import contacts. If you put the sim in the phone without restarting it for some reason it doesn't get all the contacts sometimes.
