2003 buick fuse

Table 1: 4-Wire Ignition Switch Table
The body control system consists of the following 3 modules:
• The dash integration module (DIM)
• The instrument panel integration module (IPM)
• The rear integration module (RIM)
Each of the 3 body control modules integrate a number of functional systems under the control of a single module. Each of the modules are connected to the Class 2 serial data line; many control signals are implemented by Class 2 messages.
Dash Integration Module (DIM)
The DIM is wired to the class 2 serial data line. The various DIM input and output circuits are described in the corresponding functional areas as indicated on the DIM electrical schematics.
The DIM functions include the following:
• Control of headlights and exterior lamps
• Horn relay control
• Interior lamps incandescent dimming
• Lamps On signal with wiper/washer
• Power moding control over Class 2 serial data line
• Steering wheel controls
• Storage of the clock settings and, sending a message out on the class 2 serial data circuit in response to requests from other modules

2000 cadilac seville occasionally doesnt respond when ignition key is inserted, no memory position adjustments, no starter when key turned. is it key or ignition switch. everything usually works fine

Is the security light lit on the instrument when it doesn't start ? The ignition switch on your vehicle doesn't work like you would probably think it does . The ignition switch is input signal to the body control system .
Body Control System Description
The body control system consists of three modules and their associated electrical controls. These modules are as follows:
• The dash integration module (DIM), located on the right hand side of the instrument panel, near the blower motor.
• The instrument panel integration module (IPM), located in the center of the instrument panel, above the radio.
• The rear integration module (RIM), located on the right hand rear of the passenger compartment, behind the rear seat.
Each module integrates input and output controls for two or more functional areas. The inputs and outputs are wired to the closest module to minimize the lenth and amount of the wiring used. All three modules communicate on the Class 2 serial data line, allowing data to be shared among them, as well as with other Class 2 modules on the vehicle as needed.

Each of the three body control modules integrate a number of functional systems under the control of a single module. Each of the modules are connected to the Class 2 serial data line.
Dash Integration Module (DIM)
The dash intergration module (DIM) functions include the following:
• Power moding control (ignition switch states) over Class 2 serial data line
• Control of exterior lamps
• Interior lamps and incandescent dimming
• Steering wheel controls
• Horn relay control for theft activation
• Low side temperature for HVAC compressor
• Hood ajar switch input (export)
• Storage of the clock settings and, sending a message on the class 2 serial data line in response to requests from other modules.

Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM)
The instrument panel integration module (IPM) functions include the following:
• Front HVAC air delivery and temperature controls
• Ambient light sensor input and twilight delay input for headlights control
• Foglight switch inputs
• I/P dimmer switch input
• Traction control switch input
• Interior lamps switch input
• Key in ignition switch input from the ignition switch
• Fuel door and rear compartment lid release switch input
• Ignition switch headlight control

Rear Integration Module (RIM)
The rear integration module (RIM) functions include the following:
• Fuel level sensor input
• Heated seat controls
• HVAC blower control
• Rear defogger control
• Park brake relay controls
• Various controls for the interior lamps
• Reverse control for the backup lamps and automatic day/night mirror
• Rear foglights control
• Fuel door and rear compartment lid release controls
• Retained accessory power (RAP) control for the sunroof control module
• Ajar switch and tamper switch inputs from the rear compartment lid
• Content theft alarm

At the dealer we would hook up a scan tool and look at the ignition switch inputs to the DIM to see if has correct inputs . Also we would check DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes .
DTC B1805 Ignition Switch Problem

Normal vehicle Class 2 communication does not begin until the system power mode has been identified. The dash integration module (DIM) monitors four discrete wires from the ignition switch contacts in order to determine the present power mode (ignition switch position). The DIM communicates the system power mode to all Class 2 modules on the Class 2 serial data line.

How do I fix a serial 2 data link malfunction on a 4 cylinder 99 sunfire

Hey John ! how's it going ? How do you know you have a class 2 data bus problem ? Need some more info ! Do you have a scan tool ? Can't communicate with the PCM ? Have a check engine light on ?
You may access 2 data lines with the scan tool. The serial data line UART (circuit 800) allows the following components to communicate via serial data:
?€¢
The scan tool

?€¢
The powertrain control module (PCM)

?€¢
The instrument panel cluster

?€¢
The sensing diagnostic module (SDM)

?€¢
The electronic brake control module (EBCM)

The serial data line class 2 (circuit 1807) allows the scan tool to access directly the PCM in order to read emissions-related information. The scan tool gains access to both data lines through the data link connector (DLC). You may then monitor or control system operations for diagnostic purposes.

My 2007 Saturn Sedan has been having problems. My radio stopped working, my dome light continuously stays on and my alarm will go off if I lock it. Also, my clicker doesn't honk when I press the lock...

unfortunately you may not have a choice in the matter , unless you want a vehicle that doesn't work . U codes pertain to communication network problems . One of the vehicle modules is off line or the data bus is shorted . The dealer is not the most expensive place to take it . The chevy dealer I work at is $85 .00 a flat rate hour . Pep boy's , firestone , AAMCO ,Monroe muffler etc... all charge $115.00 a flat rate hour. An your vehicle could possibly need a new module , which in most case's needs to be programmed , DEALER ONLY ! I really don't think this is a ground issue .
Modules connected to the class 2 serial data circuit monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation. Operating information and commands are exchanged among the modules. In addition to this, Node Alive messages are transmitted by each module on the class 2 serial data circuit about once every 2 seconds. When the module detects one of the following conditions on the class 2 serial data circuit for approximately 3 seconds, the setting of all other class 2 serial communication DTCs is inhibited and a DTC will set.
DTC
Condition
U1300
Low voltage on the class 2 serial data circuit
DTC U1301 Class 2 Data Link High
Diagnostic Aids
• These DTCs cannot be retrieved with a current status. Diagnosis of current DTCs is accomplished via the symptom, Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with a Class 2 Device. Refer to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device .
• An intermittent condition is likely to be caused by a short on the class 2 serial data circuit. Use the Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with a Class 2 Device procedure in order to isolate an intermittent condition. Refer to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device .

You wouldn't know where to start . Do you have a factory or professional scan tool ? Do you know where or how to find the grounds on your vehicle . ? Do you know how to do automotive electrical testing ? Do you know how to read an use wiring diagrams to find testing points in a electrical circuit ? Do you have a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? From what I read in the factory service info .the class 2 bus is shorted to B+ or ground .
