Right click on an empty area on the desktop, select "Properties" from the menu and select the 'Settings' tab. Under the 'Display' heading, select your new screen from the drop down menu and click Apply and OK and see if this helps..

Hello gkirindongo,

Do you mean the wallpaper of the desktop is divided into 4 equal parts, or do you mean the whole desktop is divided into 4 equal parts? (are there 4 "start", 4 "recyle paper", 4 "My Copmpure, 4 mouses cursors?...)

In the desktop properties , settings tab , you can clone the desktop to the other screen or make it extend to the other screen or make one or the other the primary , so you should check that setting in there to see if thats the setting problem thats giving you that kind of display

  1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click Display icon.
  2. In the Display properties window click the Settings tab.
  3. In Settings tab under the Display click the down arrow and select the secondary display connected to your computer.
  4. Once selected check the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor option.
If your external display is not shown by Windows its likely that your laptop does not support this feature.

I would check the cable and connector pins first.
Then I would suspect there's a problem with the video signal board inside the monitor.

It could be the LCD panel controls, too. That would make the unit beyond economical repair unless you got a used one.

Dell vostro screen divided into three sections

Is it a Desktop Background issue? Open the Personalize page by right clicking a open space on the desktop, click on desktop background, bottom left, change to fill. If that not the issue, you may have a Graphics issue. Have you done any Software updates, changes? Have you tried a reboot without battery?

How do i change my pictures to fit my laptop screen

Please give more details on what you are trying to do.

If you want to take a picture and make it the total size of your screen as the background of your screen, then just right click on the picture and select Set as Desktop Background. If the size is not what you want then go into the display properties and select the Desktop tab and change the Position to be Stretch. Stretch will fill the whole screen with the picture. Tile will fill the whole screen with multiple little pictures. Center will put the picture in the middle of the screen.

To get to the display properties click Start/Control Panel and look for Display or Appearance and Personalization.

You can also get the display properties by Right Click on an open area of the desktop and select Properties.

Se the size of the screen to full size?

Hi

You do not mention which operating system you are using.

There are 2 settings that can shrink your screen size.

Graphics Resolution Settings
Right click on empty space on the desktop > (properties) Personalize > (Settings) Display Settings > Left click and hold the slider to change the graphics resolution and test each setting until you find one you are happy with > Apply > OK.

Desktop Background Settings
Right click on empty space on the desktop > (properties) Personalize > (Desktop) Desktop Background > (Position - Stretch) How should picture be positioned - select > Apply > OK.

I hope this helps.

I bought a computer with 15.4 Wide XGA display. It has not arrived yet. I want to put photos in. I believe the wide XGA will distort the photos. Can I make the view normal?

The size of the screen and its shape has no importance if you use a decent imaging program like IrfanView - in it the image will be resized to fit the screen and if the shape doesn't matches the screen will have black bands to compensate.
The only time a distortion will be encountered is when you will try to use it as a desktop background in the Stretch format - just select Center and all will be fixed. Of course the best solution is to crop and resize the picture to fit the screen exactly - you can do that with Irfan.

I need help changing my background on my Gateway LT20 Series

Hi there and welcome to Fixya!

I'm guessing you're referring to the Windows desktop background. But if not, please provide additional information.

The Windows desktop background is the image on the desktop that appears behind the shortcuts. To change the background, please follow the steps below:

1. Open the "Display Properties" screen by placing the mouse cursor over a blank area of the desktop. Click the right mouse button to access the context menu and choose "Properties". You can also access the "Display Properties" screen by clicking on Start, select Control Panel, and then Appearances and Themes. Open the "Display" shortcut.

2. Select the "Desktop" tab from the "Display Properties" screen.

3. Pick a picture from the Background list by clicking on it and click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position. Personal pictures in the "My Pictures" folder are listed by name in the Background list.

4. Choose a background picture in another location by clicking on the "Browse" button. You can use any files with the following extensions: .bmp, .dib, .gif, .htm or .jpg. Click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position.
