There is a small spring that is attached to a guide on top of the air filter housing. This controls whether the automatic choke on the carborator. Should the choke guide be to the left or too the right. Mower runs like ****. I would like to repair or fix this. Can't afford a new mower in these times. Sell cars for a living. The smoke could be caused by blowby around the piston rings. Pour a small amount of transmission fluid in the spark plug hole and turn the engine over several times. Check the plug for fouling. Also check the coil wire for spark.
Hi smithjazzy8...
Check your oil level, it sounds like it has got too much oil in the crankcase.
The oil level should be to the last two threads on the fill plug threads of the engine.
This is the main cause of white smoke coming from the exaust of the engine.

With the engine cold, check the oil level. Oil level is quite important especially in a smaller engine. Try to clean all excess oil off engine and body. Then, if you can get it running....check for any leaks. If it is still smoking, it has other issues besides being too full of oil. The oil breather will be full of oil. The oil filter may be saturated with oil. Check those 2 things especially as they allow motor oil to be drawn into the carburetor and cause excessive smoking. Pull out and clean the spark plug. Post back if needed.
Pull the spark plug and see if there is oil in the cylinder. When you turn a 4 cycle engine over or on it's side, the oil can leak into the cylinder. There may be so much oil in there that the piston won't move. When you have the plug out, clean it before you re-install. Good luck...Lee
Could be just a head gasket, also could be rings. Could also be oil in the gas or bad gas overall. Empty out the gas, change the oil, and try again. If it does the same thing take it to service shop.
Make sure the engine is not overfilled with oil most of the small rotary mower engines hold about 20 oz of oil.It will push oil out of the breather is the oil level is too high or if the mower was tipped on its side. Also check the air filter to make sure the oil did not saturate it.Once you correct the problem the smoke should clear up.
I think that this is a 4stroke engine and runs on neat petrol.Have you been putting oil in with the petrol like a 2 stroke engine needs because this would account for the smoking. If not the check that you havn't overfilled the gearbox oil.
