I have a 40 year old Stainless Steel Scotts SA-0 spreader. I would like to know what settings to use on current products. This spreader does not drop straight down. It ejects out the rear slots shaped like quotaion marks to avoid dew clogging the slots. Anyone have the original conversion scale in the owner's manual?

I found drop-rate tables at http://www.vigoro.com/ProductCategories/WeedInsectControl/SummerFertilizer/ProductDetails/Spreader+Settings.htm and http://www.bayeradvanced.com/media/productlabel/502840A_label.pdf. I don't know how accurate they are, but they are consistent with one another so I'm using them :)

Scott's no longer makes this handy helper. Do this, get some white sand and mix it with the grass seed. It will mark your lawn and help you see where you spread the seed or fertilizer. Joe

SOURCE: What would be the setting to cover 4 pounds of

Unfortunately, because granular products come in many different particle s and densities, there is no way to determine a universal pounds per thousand spreader setting. The only solution would be to do a 50 foot by 20 foot test. The 50 by 20 rule will allow you to determine an appropriate pounds per thousand rate for any product in anyspreader, but there is some work that will need to be done. *Weigh out and Place enough material in the hopper to cover 1,000 sq. ft. (Inyour case 4 pounds) *Place the spreader setting on a low setting about 1/4 of the way open. * Apply the 4 pounds of material over a 50 x 20 ft. area (This is 1,000 sq. ft.). *If material is left over, you are underapplying, and will need to increase the setting accordingly; before applying to the remainder of the lawn *If you come up short, you are over applying and you will need to decrease the setting; before applying to the remainder of the lawn

Hi,
The best way is to just place a small amount... like 5 lb in the hopper...start with it barely open and see how far you get,,, then compute from there what you need...
The settings they give you are guesamates at best and are often set to place too much... why not??? they are selling you a product!!

What was the last year the all metal Scotts Spreader 75-3 was manufactured?

The originals come up for sale or auction, and there is one here from 2021 you could have got for $25 and it seems unsold

https://www.google.com/search?q=Scotts+Spreader+75-3

Everyone says 'Vintage', so that is over 25 years old, but the best thing would be to ask in the parts department as Scotts as they are bound to have an old catalogue. On the instruction manuals, there is normally a printed publishing or copyright date on the bottom of the first or last page.

Need a setting for Scott's Speedy Green EdgeGuard mini

First, I went to the products website, in this case Lesco and looked up the spreader settings:
https://www.johndeerelandscapes.com/home/spreader-settings.aspx

Then, I went to Scotts website and looked up spreader settings:
http://www.scotts.com/smg/node2/SCOTTSCOM/lawn-care/lookup-spreader-settings/7800015-24900013-s

I cross referenced a product on the Scotts website that uses the same settings as one of those listed on the Lesco website and I found my settings that way.

In my case I was using Lesco Pre-M 0.86% 0-0-7 and wanted to apply 5.3 lbs/1000ft. My spreader was a Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini with settings from 0-15. I found out by cross referencing that the Scotts Speedy Green 1000 and my spreader used the same settings. So I ended up using the recommended setting of 5.5, as listed on the Lesco website for the Scotts Speedy Green 1000, to apply 5.3 lbs/1000ft of pre emergent using my Scotts EdgeGuard Mini.

Hope this helps!

That model is a little over 45 years old, gotta love those metal spreaders! Many times the new Drop spreader settings will work for the older models as well, you just have to make sure it looks like its dropping at the right rate. That can be a little troublesome, but if you can estimate about 1/4 of the bag and cover the proper area for that amount you should be good to go. You can always give us a call and confirm settings with us first at 1-800-543-8873. Stacey at Scotts

Lost agitater for my Scotts Spreader

I replaced mine with a clip-in cotter key, the kind they use for farm implements to keep a pin in place. I bought a stainless steel one at Lowe's for ~$1. Works at least as good as what I had.
