Can you confirm the actual model number of this set? Some had issues with the picture tubes being bad but depending on model number there may be a fairly easy way to adjust around this to correct the issue.

SOURCE: Sony KP-51HW40 51 in. Rear Projection turns blue

Hello......
First reduse the G2 voltage for the blue c.r.t,and watch if the unit works for longer period (offcource blue colour will be not present). After reducing G2 voltage to blue c.r.t still behaves the same than c.r.t is faulty and you have to replace.
Pls count the red led blinking when it goes off, incase it goes to std by mode.

SOURCE: Blue to Black screen on Sony KP-57WV600

Rowdyroddy,

Thanks you so much for this info.

I had the same problem with my Sony KW-57wv600. Blue screen turns black after a few seconds, and then standby light flashes seven times.

I called a local TV technician, and described problem. I was told it would not be cost effective to fix. After reviewing the "simple" instructions given on www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html I figured I had nothing to lose.

10 minutes to remove front panel, a "very slight" turn of a screw, and TV worked again perfectly. I could not believe it!

Thank you so much for your help!

SHAME ON SONY FOR NOT POSTING THIS FIX ON THEIR WEBSITE! SHAME ON THE TECHNICIAN AT SONY WHICH INSISTED A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WAS REQUIRED.

I have always been a fan of Sony, swearing by Sony products exclusively. After this experience, I am now forced to consider some other options when purchasing electronics in the future.

Yes common problem it seems with these. I can help you get the set working but this fix only prolongs the inevitable so I'm told. (more about that at the bottom) Please read entire posting before starting. You will need to take off the front panel, there are 2 screws towards the bottom on each side behind little pop out plugs. Once those are out take off the panel (pull from bottom, sometimes the round clips at the top come off, either glue them back on the panel or leave them out). There are wires attached to the panel, you can either unhook them or just take them out of the "twist tie" holders and move the panel out of the way to the left. You will now see a thin panel. Remove this one also. Once that is off you will see the bottoms of the 3 glass tubes and on the "floor" of the set there is a group of 6 small knobs. This is called the focus block. Each row of 3 knobs are labeled either screen or focus, also, there should be 3 letters R G B (Red Green Blue). (We won't be adjusting the focus knobs). You will need to adjust the Blue screen knob (on my set it was the bottom left knob). If the set will stay on for a little bit you can adjust it with it on. Once you have found the correct knob (don't worry about the white paint) turn the set on, once you see the picture slowly turn the blue screen knob counter clockwise until the blue diagonal disappear. Be careful not to turn this knob too fast while the set is on. Keep in mind, it may take a little bit to break off the paint. You will see the screen turn back to normal as you turn the knob. Adjust it just until the lines disappear This should solve your problem. If the set won't stay on, with it off turn the knob about 1/8 turn counter clockwise then turn the set on. Once it is on you can fine tune it. Adjust it just until the lines fade out of sight. (You may have to adjust back the other way until the lines show up and then back it off again). Remember to turn the knob slowly. I have heard people getting charged a lot of money for this. I was also told that this is compensating for a dying component(s) all I know it has bought me at least a year. I also read that someone has gotten several years out of there set w/o repair just by doing this adjustment whenever its needed. (once the lines start presenting themselves). I can't see spending big money on these sets when you could put it towards a new set so I will keep it going for free as long as I can. I hope this works out for you. I'm tired of typing so good luck and post if you need any more help. BTW this adjustment works if this symptom presents itself in green or red also. Just substitute the blue knob to the applicable color. Now go put your TV back together :)

My Sony KP-53S35 turns on, shows a blue screen, turns off

It sounds like the blue CRT (picture tube) is failing. The part number for this is 8-733-575-25 but you will need a technician to replace it for you as there is mechanical and electrical alignment to with with it. At that point it probably isn't cost effective to repair the TV. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thank you.

Kp-65wv700 7 blinks

hello High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

Check your CRT boards on the end of the tubes for burn spots, and burnt components, check the resistors to make sure they are not shorted, burnt, and they read the correct resistance. Check the diodes to make sure they conduct in one direction only and are not shorted or open.

Blue Screen and TV shuts off

Here's a shortcut to what the blinking codes mean.
http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/08/sony-tv-led-blinking-codes-what-does-it.html
Strange how some people have 5 blinks. Most with this problem have 8 blinks (like myself)

I still have the blue-flash-then-shutting-off problem.. (8 blinks meaning voltage error) but I did fix the blue lines.. The lines across the screen can be very easily fixed whether they're blue green or red. . No, I mean REALLY easy. Took me longer to get the cover off. Once the front cover is off it takes 10 seconds. This link was also posted recently in one of the posts below as a solution..
http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html
(My lines didn't look like the ones in the picture mine were several evenly spaced blue arcs)

After some research I believe the flash/shutting off problem means the CRT is going. I've also read that it might be the D-board and I'm not even sure that that is... But If it is indeed the CRT then I'll let you know it's very difficult to find a replacement blue CRT as this part has been discontinued.. but I did eventually find an alternate to an alternate part (yes that's the 3rd alternate !)) online for $256. Here: http://store.tv-repair-service-salinas.com/8-733-649-35.html

If you're bold enough to attempt that then good luck and please let us know if it worked.
Or another alternative is there's a whole lot of Boxing Day sales goin' on right now.
