My Yamaha S1700 DVD player does not play HD dvd's. In most cases the 1 or the other error message "unknown format" or "unknown disc" appears. Why is this ? The DVD is connected to a fully HD compatible Sony Bravia LCD TV by proper cabling. Regards Gordon
I was under the impression that it supported HDMi digital audio/vidio output (1080). Have I misunderstood the spec ?
Best regards

Thousands of annoyed customers of Panasonic, Yamaha, and Denon DVD Player owners have encountered the infamous H02 / H07 /H03 erors and many others on thier players or maybe the "No disk" error even though a disk is in the drive. Well many people have spent hundreds on repair or bought a new unit. But i am here to tell you that it is okay to open up your dvd player and mess around in side. If your DVD player comes up with one of these errors the first thing you might want to try is to open up your DVD player by removing the screws on the side and the back (depending on the model), then plug the dvd player into power outlet with cover removed. Stick a disk in and press play and give the disk a little push. Most of the time the Spindle motor is dieing out when you get a H02 error. In this case that little push may get your spindle motor to rev back up back into action. And if your as succesful as me then hopefully you have just fixed your H02 error for free without doing much work. I just got a Panasonic HT95 Reciever/DVD player to play all disks again by giving the motor a little "kick start"
Hi,
There are three things you can do that will eventually give you a working solution. Depending on the level of problem. Start with 1 progress to 3 until it works.
1. Use a cleaning disc. (one that use an alcohol based liquid)
2. If the cleaning disc does not solve it, you can use an ear bud, with some iso-propyl alcohol to clean the DVD lens on the drive directly. (you have to open the player and the drive)
3. The guaranteed working solution is to replace the DVD drive inside the player. This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer.
You simply remove the face plate, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.
Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.
Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap DVD drive locally, try ebay.
I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG DVD roms and DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.
Let me know how it goes.
usually this happens when lens cannot read the the disc. Due to few reason
1 Your disk is scratched
2 Your DVD lens is covered with dust
3 You need to replace DVD lens Try another few CD/DVD to rectify whether there is any problem with dvd you are trying to play
if this error occurs on all the dvd you played then the most likely proble is with your DVD lens
either its coverd with dust use Disk cleaner if not you got to replace a new DVD lense as per model
1. Turn on the unit 2. Open the loading tray 3. Press the "Setup" button on the remote 4. Navigate to the "Preferences" page using the right arrow key 5. Enter 138931 6. You will now see the current region code displayed 7. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required or "0" for all regions 8. Press the "Play" button on the remote
yes sir, starting to malfunction and needs replacement now. unless you cant ry cleaning it manually maybe it will help a little but sooner or later it will again give you same trouble
check the region of the new one probably it is region 4 made in china.your disc is a region one thats the reason why it cannot play on your new dvr which is a region 3 or 4.go on the web and see hw you can hack the code or burn a copy of that same disc.then try it in your new dvr.good luck
Many thanks for the swift reply.
