HP OfficeJet 6500 says small paper when I have 8x10

Every time I try to print I get the message "wrong paper size". A while back I printed pictures and now it thinks I am trying to print on 4. 6. I have 8x10 paper in tray and have checked setting on the file documents. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled print drivers.

SOURCE: Printer "out of memory"

The problem isn't your printer. The problem is with your Microsoft Works software. I know of six solutions that may work.

1) Download the latest service pack for .NET Framework 1.1. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A8F5654F-088E-40B2-BBDB-A83353618B38&displaylang=en

2) Go to this website and download the update. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=65f5b806-e6a1-4f92-a656-e56eeda67e3d&displaylang=en

3) Uninstall printer completely (again). Unplug the printer from the computer. Reboot computer. Download the lastest driver from HP website. When installing the driver software, choose (type)a different directory,( ie. C:\MYHP\HP4180\ ). Plug Printer back to computer.

4) Go to this website. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841220

5) Click START, click RUN, type SPOOL. Double click printer folder, clear (delete) any files in this folder.

6) Download the latest version of Microsoft Works 9.0.

Let me know if this works.

SOURCE: Paper size mismatch - c5280 hp all-in-one printer

I got around this problem by tricking the printer. The paper sensor, on my printer model hp4500 seems to only sense the paper at the beggining of the print job. What I did to trick the printer to print on odd size paper is slide the paper adjuster to 8.5 and put a regular white sheet in. Then put your odd size paper under it. When you print your document set the number of copies to 2 and print. The printer is going to sense that the paper is correct, and start the job. Here is the tricky part... one the first 8.5x11 sheet is almost all the way through quickly slide the paper adjuster over to match the size of your odd width paper. The printer should pick up the odd paper and print the second copy. Fool you printa! You should be able to do batches of odd paper size under the first 8.5X11 I hope this helps.

Yes I will tell you why Kodak photo paper is a little thicker in size and you should not get this same error message if you use hp photo paper or regular photo paper.See of this helps.....

Issue The Out of Paper message appears on the computer and the product stops picking up or feeding paper. Solution Step one: Reset the product

  1. Without turning the product off, remove the power cord from the back of the product.
  2. Wait 30 seconds and then plug the power cord into the back of the product.
  3. If the product is not already on, use the On button to turn it on.
Step two: Check the condition of the paper and reload it
  1. Replace any paper that is ripped, dusty, curled, wrinkled, or bent.
  2. Make sure that all the paper is the same size and type. Because only one type of paper can be used in the product at a time, paper types should never be mixed.
  3. Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges.
  4. Make sure that the stack of paper to be loaded in the product contains no fewer than 10 and no more than 25 sheets of paper.
NOTE: Do not load too much paper in the product.
  5. Insert the stack of paper into the product and gently push the paper guides snugly against the paper. Make sure that the paper is completely inserted into the product and can be picked up by the paper rollers.
  6. Try printing again. If the issue is not resolved, try loading different brands of paper and different types of paper, one type at a time, into the product and then try printing again. If the issue persists, continue with the next step.
Step three: Adjust the paper settings in the print driver The paper settings in the print driver must match the paper settings for at least one of the installed paper trays.
  1. Open a document in the program being used to print.
  2. Click File , click Print , and then click Properties . The product Properties dialog box appears.
  3. Click the Paper/Quality tab.
  4. Choose the appropriate paper size from the Size is drop-down menu.
  5. Choose the appropriate paper type from the Type is drop-down menu.
  6. Click OK and then click OK again to print the document..
  7. If the issue is not resolved, continue with the next step.
Step four: Clean the rollers
  1. Turn off the product and unplug the power cord.
  2. Open the access door to gain access to the rollers. Depending on the model, this is usually the rear access door. See the product user guide for information about locating the rollers.
  3. Clean the rubber rollers with a lint-free cloth, lightly moistened with water.
  4. Make sure that any paper rollers that rest on the input tray, which are located behind the back rollers, are cleaned. A clean cotton swab, lightly moistened with water, might be necessary to reach these rollers.
  5. Close the access door and plug in the power cord.
  6. Try printing again. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
Step five: Service the product If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product. CauseAny of the following issues can cause the error message to appear:
  • The paper trays are empty or overloaded.
  • The paper is curled.
  • The print side, or shiny side, of the paper is not loaded in the input tray face down.
  • The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers.
  • The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly.
  • The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product.
  • The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
  • The rubber paper-feed rollers are coated with dust.

SOURCE: hp 4000N 41.3 unexpected paper size

Clean the sep. rollers one in the paper tray and one inside the paper tray port. Then clean the feed roller. Its behind the sep roller in the paper tray port. You must look close with a flash light. It has 4 D feed rollers. It will rotate down to clean them do not knock the spring off. Use only water on a cloth no alcohol. Steven 818-888-0006

Officejet 6500 wireless has stopped printing ALL color.

Send the cartridges back! HP cartridges are coded and will only work with HP printers. Hp has had problems with their coded cartridges. Especially if they were manufactured overseas. Their own product won't recognize the cartridges. It is not the printer it is the cartridges.

Hp officejet 6500A Plus error message paper size is incorrect. Cannot get anything to print!

On your PC, what is the default setting for this printer. Check in the printer and accessories of Windows.
The paper size might be defaulted to A4 rather than Letter. That mismatch would cause the printer to
error out every time.

Hp[ officejet 6500. 1: how do i print dupex ??

I'm afraid your printer is not capable of duplexing automatically, so its a case of reinserting already printed sides the other way up.
secondly the font size is set by the software you print from.

Cannot print on regular letter size paper on my HP Officejet 6500A Plus printer. Gives me an error message saying Paper Size Mismatch, but it is the right paper for the print job.

I had same problem. Try this: When you go to print, change your ink quality to "draft". For some reason, I was able to print after trying everything. Hope this works for you!

HP Officejet 6500 a plus won't print. Every time I press print, it says incorrect paper size. What is wrong?

This is one of the common connectivity issues marring the benefits of having a wireless printer. In this situation your printer will not print when connected wirelessly but would need you to set it up with your system using a USB cable. Try resetting the IP of your system to what is mentioned in the printer and in case there is a router connecting your printer and system then use the IP address of router and put it in your system. This should help you fix this printer issues.
