The whole switch needs to be repaired. There are 4 little prongs on top of the switch that are made of plastic. They break off and then there is nothing to hold the switch in proper place. The whole switch needs to be repaired. There are 4 little prongs on top of the switch that are made of plastic. The heating coils in the oven need to be inspected very carefully where they plug in to the oven wall. You will need to remove the back covers and check the insulators and wiring harnesses. Over time the insulation can break down and oxidize the metal connections. You can use a voltmeter or test light to verify that the coils are getting voltage from the thermostat/switch. replacing parts is cheaper than buying new if you can find the parts.
One of the high heat sensors has failed on one of the burners under the glass. Disconnect one sensor at a time to find out which one, then replace that burner assembly.
Take a look at the solutions that have been posted regarding igniters. i suspect a dirty or wet push-down knob. you will see that others have had water/moisture causing problems. drying mights solve it, but it may need a a bit of a clean. keep trying. it must have taken me a couple of hours to solve.
The switch under that knob is bad. It's called an infinite switch. As far as the elements go, first thing to check is for proper voltage (220) to the cooktop. Let me know what you find.
