Try swapping the memory in the two slots. It sounds like either one of the memory chips is bad or one of the memory slots is bad.
If you find that one of the slots is bad, then you might try just putting a 1GB Chip in the slot that works.

SOURCE: Ram upgrades

Assuming the empty slots are for memory then just add the 2 new sticks to empty locations and leave the original one in place. The order shouldn't matter, just the overall combined amount. With the t4200 you should get a total spec of about 1.25gb depending on the operating system.
With the t3624 you'll have to pull the exhisting stick to free up a slot for one of your new ones. You'll have about 1.5gb once you're done with the install.Again, overall ram total is what counts, not the order.
Just play it safe and make sure you're correct on the locations and memory type/capacity. Check out Crucial.com and run a free system scan for your memory type and capacity. Belarc Advisor is a good program too. Good luck..

SOURCE: Beeping noise after installed memory on ecs motherboard L4S5MG

Some older computers, like mine, have a maximum memory they can handle. This one happens to be 1 gig, but yours may be less. Do you have an older computer? Yup, you do. As seen here, the maximum supported ram is 256. I'm sorry. Please rate.

I need to know how much ram my motherboard will be able to run without burning up? I have an Emachines t1090 w/ Windows XP, 900MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 128MB SDRAM, CD-ROM 48x Max. CD-Drive, 20GB Hard...

The max for your system is 512MB. You have two memory slots and one has a 128MB chip so if you want 512MB, you need two 256MB chips and throw away the 128MB.
At Newegg, a 256MB chip is $42+ shipping of $1. I'd consider getting a new computer instead.
I don't think memory upgrade will tax your system cooling.

Running a 1 gig stick and a 512mb stick, system only shows 896mb, apparently not recognizing all of the ram installed?

I assume that you've booted the computer with _ONLY_ the 512MB stick installed, and that the computer recognized it (reporting either 512MB or 384MB), i.e., the 512MB RAM is not "defective".

Hmm. 1024 minus 896 is 128.
So, the "integrated-into-the-motherboard" video-card is "stealing" 128MB of your RAM, to be used strictly for "video" purposes, leaving 896MB for Windows to use.

Now, about the "missing" 512MB of RAM.

1. If you have four slots for RAM, and they are physically arranged into two pairs of two slots, rather than four equally-spaced slots, your motherboard is capable of "dual-channel" mode. But, since your two sticks of RAM are not "matched" (size, speed), you _MUST_ insert both sticks into _ADJACENT_ slots (not slots 1/3, nor slots 2/4), in order to run your RAM in "single-channel" mode.

2. If you have two slots for RAM, interchange the two sticks, to see if that makes a difference.

Need to add RAM

Hello,

Located here is the actual specifications of your W3052.

http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=W%20Series&model=W3052

The DDR means "double data rate", SDRAM is "synchronous dynamic random access memory" and DIMM is for "dual inline memory module". These are the way manufacturers describe the specific speed, type, and packaging of the memory. You need to get the correct combination for your computer in order for it to function properly. The PC2100 is NOT correct, at the very least it will slow your computer down, and possibly will not work at all. You should use PC2700.

If you wish to add another 512MB taking your computer to 1GB total, then you only need 1 module, a 512MB, like the one that came in the computer. Do not purchase a 1GB module expecting it to work properly with the one already there. It probably won't. If you want to max out your computer's memory taking it to 2GB, then you will need to purchase 2 each 1GB modules, and remove the existing 512MB module.

When you go to the computer store, you ask for either "one five-hundred-twelve megabyte, PC2700, DDR, SDRAM DIMM memory module" or "two one-gigabyte, PC2700, DDR, SDRAM DIMM memory modules".

The part numbers from, Kingston, one of the major add-on memory makers are shown here:

512MB = KVR333X64C25/512
1GB = KVR333X64C25/1G

1gb shows 512mb only

Your mobo is quite old and its chipset can only support a maximum of 512MB PER SIDE (technically called a bank) of a memory module. I would guess that your 1gb memory module has 8 chips that are all located on one side of the module, putting all of the 1 GB on one bank. Thus, only 512MB of your 1 gb RAM is detected and usable by your motherboard (the remaining 32 mb is most likely being used by your onboard video). You'll need to find a double sided 1 gb memory module (usually 8 chips on each side).
