Hi there,

Today I got such a machine (Riccar) for free from a lady I know. the only problem was that the needle walked against the bobbin (timing problem).

I screwed the sewingmachine open and after some screwing I saw that the part, Hook Drive Gear, Riccar #53741, was broken. Wat I did is I enscrewed two screws wich hold the part on the axe and with a bigger flat screwdriver I could just push the part from the axe, from the other gear. It looks more difficault then it is.

Now I have to get a new part, put it back and time the the machine so that the needle will go normal, at the right time, in the bobbin. Does anybody know the trick to do that?

regards,
Daan

SOURCE: Hello I have an old Riccar 6800 sewing machine

Hiya, the threading for this machine is pretty standard so you won't be going wrong there. Have you used a sewing machine before? The tension dial (on the extreme left) should be set at 5. The other dial to your left should be on blue zigzag with orange broken line. The dial on the right should be set at 0 and the bottom one on 2 - 3. I've been looking for a manual for this machine as I inherited this one. It took me ages to suss straight sewing out. Another thought is take it to a repairer and ask for a quote. Good luck.

Is there a dressmaker sewing machine with the model no. 777?

In the 1960's, Riccar made a heavy duty 777 sewing machine. Riccar made machines into the 1970's. The headquarters appears to have been in Chicago before it moved offshore. Value of the machine? Maybe $100 if it worked. Parts might be found or salvaged from machines used for parts. However, here is a Riccar shop in South Carolina:

I would be doubtful regarding offers of a manual for sale for this online unless at minimum it was attached to a brick and mortar store in business (and even then might query the local Better Business Bureau).

I have a Riccar 500FA. The upper thread will not pick up the bobbin thread. I have oiled, cleaned, checked the needle installation, the bobbin installation and the needle is brand new.

needle/hook timing needs adjustment
accredited service agent can fix or any sewing machine service shop should be able to do the job

No model number on Riccar sewing machine

Riccar machines have model numbers placed in 1 of several places on their machines governed by, I suppose, the whims of the manufacturer and the most common places are on the back underneath the motor mount, on the right end bottom under the handwheel, and just under the bed of the machine, front. These numbers are going to be on a metal plate attached by 2 or more rivets. Should you see 2 or more small holes in the casting in any of these locations, it is possible that the plate has been removed. The number that you have supplied is the serial number, and it can be very difficult to determine the model number from this information as the machine is manufactured at a number of different plants/locations.

Looking for hook gear for riccar eatons viking ezb 108798 and repair manual. my bobbin hook wiil not move

The gear is #53741 and is available at most sewing dealers. The part is also available wholesale at sewing machine services in Canada. Also fits riccar, eatons and babylock machines, so a babylock dealer could help. You will have to beg a repair book or photocopy same to ger mounting and setting instructions. We charge about 60 to install and time the part ONLY.

We had to install a new hook drive gear on our Riccar 500FA. Now that is successful I find we are stuck at how to set the timing. Thank You Rebecca Koch

We know we can buy a manual you greedy people. Thought this was where people help with advice. The machine don’t even cost $60 why would someone buy a manual for that or get “pro” advice for that? It would be cheaper to go buy another used machine.

My riccar - model #808 - needs gears. is it possible to have these sent to me?

Yes. However, you wrote "gears" as plural. There is only one gear in that machine; the hook gear. The hook gear is inexpensive and easy to replace and retiming the hook is easy as well. There is another potential problem; the timing belt cogs. They are plastic and, over time, they split, causing the timing belt to jump off time constantly. The replacement kit (2 cogs, belt and idler pulley) is available but is extremely labor intensive and requires a high level of aptitude for mechanical repair.
If you need a hook gear, they are under $10 and can be shipped right to your door. 805-540-9294

808 E that I need a diagram for.I think it the hook gear that broke but before i order one I want to make sure thats what it's called

A common problem with the Riccar 808e is a broken hook gear.

The part number is 53741 and usually runs about $15.

Putting it in is easy but then you must re-time the hook. Let me know if you need help with it. I'm not sure where you can get a diagram or a manual...
