Ice maker is working, Water dispenser is not.

I have recently bought a LG LFD22860ST Fridge second hand. I have hooked up the water line, which runs into the fridge into a filter, it comes back out and enters main water switch and the ice maker is working but the water dispenser, which is in the door (ice maker is inside freezer), is not working. I have checked the water lines at the reservoir and they are dry. Is this an electrical problem or do I need a new main water switch.

When the filter freezes up, the outside casing may have cracked and will leak water when you dispense water through the door.  You will need to have the filter replaced and that should take care of the problem.  But the filter should never have frozen in the 1st place.  You will need to call a qualified LG technician to see what's going on inside the refrigerator.

You may have a bad water valve.  The valve has 2 sections, one for the water dispenser and the other for the ice maker.  Check those connections in the back of the refrigerator.  If everything is ok, replace the water valve.

Since this is a brand new unit, I wouldn't waste the time or money troubleshooting it yourself; contact the place you purchased it from and exchange it.

SOURCE: Ice maker stopped after electric shutoff

You may have a problem with the computer control board in the ice maker.  Try this.  Turn off the icemaker for about 2 minutes.
Turn on the ice maker and press the clear button.  Press and hold this button for 12 seconds to get it to force extract.  This will confirm that the motors will work and push the ice cubes out.  Afterwards, let it run by itself.  If it still doesn't make ice, you will need to replace the icemaker.

the answer to the problem from a LG training class is... if the bottom left side of the refer is freezing food the liner has split no fix at this time. some people have beEn able to turn off the ice maker and the food will stop freezing. the ice maker has a fan in the freezer that blows all the cold air up the ice making Cobby.

DO THIS ONLY IF OUTA WARNTEE
for most of you with bad ice makers you could drill a hole in the very bottom of the ice maker towards the front right under the little metal arm in the wight plastic AND DONT DRILL DEEP just enough to put a hole in the outer case then hit it with a blow-dryer for a little bit to remove ice that's blocking the gear on that arm this works 5 outs 10 times

I just bought a used kenmore elite side by side refrigerator and hooked up the water line to the back of the fridge. My question is where does the long water line the goes to the fridge and comes back...

Where you hook the house water line is to the water inlet valve which is a one in two out solonoid controlled valve. One side goes to the water dispenser in the door and the other hooks to the ice maker connection.

So I suspect the long water line you are talking about has had the lines switched at the valve and needs reversed. The long line probably goes up the back of the unit and connects to the ice maker. The one for the water dispenser should hook to the water chiller resevoir and then to the water dispenser.

Ice maker not working

Check to make sure the water line is properly hooked up and on (this would run from the general area of the ice maker out the back of your fridge, down, and through a pipe into the floor or wall. If this is not hooked up or present, your ice maker has no way to get water) if the water is on at the fridge, make sure it's on where the pipe is connected to the water line is as well.
Second, check to see if the "full" bar is in the proper position. This should be somewhere in front of where the ice dispenses, if it is in one position and it's not working, move it to the other position.
If these general solutions do not work, please respond with your make and model and any other information on the malfunction you can give us!

Ice maker works but not water dispenser

Here are the steps I took to fix thi:. First, if you tapped into a copper line near your sink, turn off the off the tap completely and turn it back on again. Why? Occasionally, calcium deposits will build there and cut down your water pressure. You may have enough pressure to run your ice maker, but not enough to push the ice out of the line (I'll talk about this later). Turning the tap on and off breaks up the calcium. This will also fix an ice maker that's slow to make ice or makes hollow cubes.

Next, I just kept running my water pump (about sixty seconds or more at a time) until the water finally started to come through. When it did, a few inch-long pieces of of ice came through -- telling me that the problem was a frozen water line. If running the water pump several times doesn't work (I think it took me six tries), consider turning off your fridge for a while (be sure to remove food and pack in dry ice).

No ice or water from in-door dispenser

When you first hook water up to the refrigerator you have to fill a tank in the fridge. Open the water supply behind the ref. turn the control on the front of the ref to water and hold a glass under the spout as if you are filling a glass . You may have to wait 3-4 minutes forthe tank and lines to fill with water before you get any to come out into the glass. The water my be discolored at first so run a few glass full through before drinking . hope this helps

How to hook up Ice & Water dispenser on freezer door

The water valve is on the back of the refrigerator. The water line connects directly to that valve. If there is no line available then you will need to run one from a cold water line in the plumbing using a drill type (1/4") saddle valve on that pipe. Hope this helps.
