OVER FLOW My Bunn seems to pump the water to fast for the filter to handle it. I have the same coffee maker at work and don't have a problem. I am using the same coffee and filters both places.

Water comes out so fast it forces the coffee grounds up over the filter and the grounds go all over the counter and in the pot.....it is getting a bit frustrating....any suggestions on how to fix?

We have had our Bunn for some time, not doing anything different, and now it is overflowing the coffee grounds when it brews. We use Bunn filters faithfully. We clean the pot regularly.

Have owned 5 makers over 30 years. This one is the only one that overflows. Only thing that helps is adding the water 30% at a time over 2 minutes.

#1 You must have the second, plastic decanter that came with previous models to do this one: slide an ice cream stick between the lid and that little plunger to hold it down. Having owned Bunns for decades an never having this problem, this is what I did.

#2 If that had not worked, I was going to use a round toothpick and break it off in a hole of the restrictor (simply unscrews) one hole at a time until I slowed the water down to sycn with the basket. However, the problem is the gushing that comes with closing the lid.

I suppose Bunn wanted to cut costs so they replaced the 2nd measuring, plastic decanter with the gate that allows you to use your same glass, serving decanter. With earlier models, you got your coffee even faster! Hope this helps. Mine stopped overflowing when I fastened the plunger down.

The Bunn needs Bunn filters because they are thinner and let water through faster. The cheaper filters will overflow. Bunn's claim to fame is fast...this is just part of the fast process.

Why does my Bunn coffeemaker spill over the filters when I use Bunn Filters.

I purchased a special flow restrictor sprayhead from BunnAtHome.com because I use decaf coffee. Also if you use a finer grind then you need this to slow the water so it doesn't overflow.

My basket always overflows, the water doesn,t empty fast enough

Here is the SOLUTION(S):
1. Buy a sprayhead that restricts the flow2. Let the water flow through for a few minutes, then lift the lid while it flows through.3. Don't use Decaf4. Plug up a couple holes on your current spray head

My friend gave me a Bunn thermal home coffee maker and I don't know how to make it work and can't seem to find directions on line?

Depending on which maker and how old it is it may have a switch for the heating element. The BUNN brewers have a reservoir inside that needs to be topped off BEFORE energizing the heating element/plugging it in. This usually will require about 3 pots being poured through until water starts to flow from the filter basket. (Have a pot in place to catch the water) Then it is safe to plug in your machine. After it heats up (about 20 minutes) you can load your grounds and pour through a pot of COLD water and voila... coffee.
Also, due to the reservoir you will want to not shut off or unplug your brewer... then it will be ready to brew next time.

Coffee grounds overflow

Tressia,
An overflow can occur when using certain brands of coffee that are finer ground or using a water softener, bottled water, reverse osmosis, or filtered water. If you will call Bunn Customer Service, you can get a flow restrictor sprayhead which will eliminate this issue.

Keeps spilling over during brewing

These tanks can't actually be overfilled since all water poured in displaces the exact same amount of water coming out the spout. So, whatever amount of water you pour in, will be the same amount of water that flows to your pot minus the amount absorbed by the coffee grounds and filter.

Your problems sounds like an undersized (Non Bunn) filter, or clogged brew basket. To verify this, try pouring in only half the water for your brew cycle and wait for it to finish dripping, then pour in the rest. If no overflow has occurred, you simply have the wrong type of filter. If overflow begins again, you have a clogged brew basket, since no Bunn can flow too fast for the brew basket to keep up with it.

This is because Bunn filters are manufactured differently than generic store bought paper filters. They will flow faster, brew cleaner and stand up better than normal generic filters.
Remember, Bunn makes their OWN filters for good reason.
They made the first, best paper filters for drip coffee pots, and all others are just generic dioxin gas producing paper.

Are you using a finer ground coffee? Or do you have a water softener, use filtered water or bottled water? If so, please call customer service to get a flow restrictor sprayhead which will eliminate this issue.

Over running, doesnt drain thru filter as fast as its pumping in

Sometimes this happens if you use filters that are too thick for the brewer. If you are using Bunn filters andthis keeps happening , up above your filter basket, there is a sprayhead. Turn that off, and look at it to see if it is plugged up.If there is no sprayhead, then that could cause your filter basket to overflow, as too much water will be coming into the basket too fast.

Filter basket overflows after cleaning Bunn VPR Coffee Maker

Some people also try adding fresh grounds to brewed grounds, resulting in an overflow. A restricter valve can be used, but a better solution is to simply pour in half the water at a time. This is what people who buy non Bunn filters do to stop overfills.

Brewed coffee mess

You may be grinding the coffee to fine making the draining a little slower. There's something called a fast flow filter that may help also. Also, make sure that you aren't jamming the filter down to partially block the drain hole ensuring that it is freely draining out unobstructed
