SOURCE: physically remove nvidia 8600gt video card from

The video card is in the AGP slot on the motherboard.
There will be a plastic clip at the back of the slot that needs to be pressed to release the back of the graphics card.
When you insert the new graphics card this clip should automatically lock in the new card.

You need the latest display driver for your graphics card.

Click here to download the drivers off the Nvidia website.

Enter the information in the fields as shown below;

Product Type: Geforce
Product Series: Geforce 8 Series
Product: 8400GS
Operating System: Select the operating system you are using. XP or 7 whichever it is.
Language: Choose your Language, English

Then click search and download and install the driver.

This should solve your problem!

Do do recommend sticking with XP as your current computer system will find it difficult to run Windows 7.

I have XP sp3 installed on a Althlon 64 processor but I can not run windows defender 64 as it keeps showing message not supported by processor

You have a 32-bit OS on the computer so you have to run Windows Defender 32-bit regardless that you have a 64-bit processor.

Help with GeForce FX 5500...

Try reinstalling the driver for this card. Please visit the manufacturer's website for the latest version of the driver for your OS. You may have mistakenly installed the wrong driver, for the wrong OS.

If that does not work, see if your AGP slot is viable, or try a different slot if available. Should that fail as well, most likely you have a faulty card.
