Standard black printing has faded to grey.

What was once a vibrant black standard-mode print now only prints in a faded grey. Meanwhile, the color printing is fine. The black cartridge has 60% of the ink left. I have run print diagnostics and print head cleaning through level 2 with no improvement. HELP!
Thank you.

I swapped out the black ink cartridge for a new one, and the printing is still so faded I can't hardly see it. :-(

I emailed HP. I hope their tech rep comes up with a solution, because I love the AIO otherwise...

i have exactly the same problem.. I would appreciate any solutions anone comes up with.

HP tech support had me replace the remanufactured ink cartridge with a genuine HP Ink Cartridge and also the black/yellow print head (ouch!) and that fixed the problem. It was an expensive lesson. Don't know why -- I was using remanufactured ink cartridges from the same vendor for a year without and problem. Oh well...

Could just be a faulty cartridge?

My hp printer developed a similar fault, and despite all my attempts to clean, realign, whatever, the problem wasn't solved till I fitted a new ink cartridge. It's worth a try.

Thank you for your feedback ... I'm so sorry this quick fix didn't help you.

Another thing to try is to disconnect the printer, then examine and clean the carriage and the cartridges, as described on this help page for your product group. There is a diagram about 2/3 down the page.

If this doesn't help, and no-one at Fixya finds a better solution for you, perhaps it is worth emailing HP directly ...... https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/emai...

Samsung clx 3185 printing is all faded, colors and black

When you go to print, your printer driver should have quality options. Make sure you're not using "economy" or "draft" mode. Try "quality" mode.

Deskjet 1050A is not printing black. Help?

Hello,

The black ink cartridge is cloged or empty. Try to refill it in case of empty, or clean in case of cloged ( left the printhead for 1 hour in clean solution or in hot water if you don't have )

All the best !

My Xerox 8400 is printing the wrong colors. Where it's red, it's printing a brown shade and where it should be grey, it's printing green. My logo is grey and red and it's printing all grey, but not the...

Try printing a light stripes test page (Troubleshooting, print quality problems, troubleshooting print quality page).

If you do not appear to have many missing jets but the colours are all just wrong it may be that the ink has gone stale. Run a couple of head cleans and you should see the colours start to improve. If it is getting better, all you can do is keep running head cleans until you have replenished all the ink in the printhead well.

This problem is common in situations where a lot of black and white printing is done, with very little colour.
Alternatively, it could be that your wiper/cleaning blade is not cleaning the head properly and is smearing the different coloured inks across the head, or possibly that your printhead is leaking colours but I think the first solution should solve your problem.
Hope this helps.

My HP 3550 won't print black when it is out of a color.

restore the properties.... set as "print in grey scale" or "print color as b/w images"...
also if the print become less or more dark you can change the settings to print whit more intensity or less...
there is no necesary change all your documents as "watter ink" only change the print options to fade to black

Colours are not true, grey is brown

You are getting leakage from one color cartridge to another. Do deep cleaning and run nozzle check. You may have been using non-Cannon inks. They can corrode the ink cartridge seats due to inferrior quality ink. You may need to replace the print head. Check out Cannon web site under this printer support. Print head is in the $50 neighborhood.

Ink cartridges

Go through your standard print procedure. File>print then look for the properties button which is usually on the top right of the window. Press Properties and look for either Printing in B/W or grey scale. That should prevent your color cartridges from printing. After you check that box, you should be able to print black only.
