JVC HR-S3901 S-VHS / Switching from TV to VCR no longer works . . .

Using the remote and pressing the "TV/VCR" button used to switch my TV picture from TV (cable) to VCR (tape or cable). Today, it stopped functioning. After pressing the button several times, it remained on TV. All other functions on the remote work fine. In fact, I used another JVC remote with the same results. When I connect the rear S-video output to another monitor, the VCR picture works just find. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting all cable connections and I unplugged the VCR (reboot) with no changed results). In 20 years I have never heard of a VCR malfunctioning like this. So the problem seems to be that the VCR will no longer switch between TV/VCR. What causes this and how can I fix it. Thx.

The solution from "Techman posted on Dec 11, 2006" may be the correct solution, but I'm not interested in paying for repairs. A quick solution that worked was using the RCA plugs in the rear of the VCR and connecting them to the front of the TV. It's the Best solution without paying for repairs.

How do I hook up a dvd player to the VCR? The GE TV only has a coaxial outlet which runs to the VHF/UHF/CATV outlet on the VCR Sanyo VWM-800. The ANT IN runs to the JVC satellite dish. All is working fine except getting the new Samsung DVD-VR357 to work with this. I have tried alternating the in and out audio/video hookups on the VCR and DVD player, using the VCR input options each time, and nothing is coming on the TV screen for the DVD player. Any suggestions?

We have exactly the same problem, just started recently. We had been using this button for years & it suddenly stopped working. It doesn't light up on the display at all & we tried it with a universal remote also.

Put a tape in the vcr & press play ,if the picture still does not appear it is most likely that you have faulty cable/s(that is of course providing you have selected the vcr mode on the tv ie.rf/av)

Ifyou do not see the VCR/TV button switch on the front panel, then its a problem most likly with the firmware in the microprocessor. If you do see the VCR/TV indicator switching in or on the front panel display, most likly a defective RF modulator/switcher or RF antenna pack. You may still be able to get one from like MCM or tritronics or PTS corp can rebuild it for you. I have seen this type of break down many times with VCR's as we used to do hundreds of VCR repairs a day as we did factory service for several companies in the NY/NJ area. Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.

The remote isn't working (and, yes, I tried new batteries--a couple of times). I need to hit the "TV/VCR" switch. I don't see that same button on the VCR. How can I switch from TV to VCR (and back) when...

I ran into a very similar problem with a TV that I had that did not have a TV/VCR button on it. You HAD to have a remote to change it and the remote for the TV had been LONG lost. The solution was to go to Target or Walmart, and pick up a cheap universal remote. Make sure that the universal remote has a TV/VCR button on it and when you get the right code plugged into the remote it will function just like the original remote.

VHS won't work

Had the same problem on my JVC vcr/dvd combo unit.
You need to turn off the timer function. I did this by making sure my remote was in the "VHS" mode...turn the swith from TV to the right (found on the remote in the upper left corner...an then hit the "vcr" button. Then point the remote at the VCR unit and hit the No. 4 button (timer turns off). Your unit should not have the red timer displayed and you should be able to play your tapes okay.

Hope this helps.

VCR doesn't work

The DVD has to be off so that it allows the VCR signal to pass through. Also make sure the VCR's output is set to channel 3 (little tiny slide switch in the back by the VCR's antenna jacks).
