I understand that fridges have a calibration screw to adjust the temperature. I would like to convert my fridge so it runs at 55F. Is it possible? Mt fridge is 5 years old

Sounds like an air flow problem to the lower unit. Take the sheetmetal or plastic rear cover off the freezer back wall and make sure the coils are frosted up good and even but NOT a block of ice inches thick (air needs to circulate and a blocked coil won't let air move over it efficiently). Make sure the fan is running to move the air around. In the fridge area make sure the air dampers are letting the cold air from the freezer down to the fridge compartment. Depending on what you find will determine the next steps so let us know.

Check the condensor fan behind the fridge which is designed to cool the compressor/gas line by blowing air over the condensor. When this fan motor seizes or stops running, the gas gets very hot and because it is skin cooled too, the outside of the fridge also gets very hot. You can overcome the problem temporarily by putting a standing fan behind the fridge, blowing onto the compressor and under the fridge untill you can have the problem rectified.

The temperature issue will not change as you do not have a frost free fridge. With the type you currently have the older it gets the less it works. Think frost free!

. The most common problem is a bad start relay on the compressor. In rare cases the compressor may be bad. If you are mechanically inclined you can replace the relay yourself for less than 50 dollars. You will need model and serial number off of the unit and order the part by those numbers. if the compressor is bad you will need to hire a good service company

If your fridge is running all the time and you are not hearing it shut off you must first of all check on the thermostat, the lines to the thermocouple. Then start the fridge and check if the compressor stops, if not shut off and reduce the settings on the thermostat. if the fault recurrs then try to change the thermostat and see byt setting the thermostat low if the compressor shuts off. Also check for the wiring to the timer and the allied circuits. I amsure you can get to this fault, take help if it is beyond you, but keep this advice in mind. Good day

I don't think fridges are designed with thermo. to run at a balmy 55F. I could probaby swap out the thermo and find one to suit my purpose as 1 solution but was looking for an easier approach as my 55F requirement is temporary. I am curing sausages for 4 weeks and the temp. for successful curing is approx. 55F. After the curing process is complete, I'd like to run the fridge as it should. What is a bottle fridge thermostat? tks
If you have a conventional thermostat and can locate the phial (sensing end) at the coldest point on the evaporator you should be able to run at 55f by setting at the lowest point then move the phial back to it's original position when you want to return to normal.
Bottle fridges (back bar fridges) run at a higher temperature than domestic food storage fridges, and bar cellar coolers higher still. There is a whole range of thermostats for different types.
You may find your fridge thermostat has an adjustment screw that can be set to click off at a higher temperature using a very fine screwdriver, but this usually is difficult to achieve and may lead to you needing to buy a new thermostat when you want to return the fridge to normal.
Is there a cool dry dark place you can find for curing?
