Question about Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console
Annoying it turns off and you have to have the ac cable weighted
Sounds like the solder joints have failed on the board. Either take it to a friend you trust to do this, or if you are comfortable with disassembly and soldering then do so with a sharp tip soldering iron, hand held pen type not the huge gun type. Of course always unplug the power before doing any type of work on it.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

i had the same problem and i could fix it.
but you i'll have to open your ps2, and then you will notice a little black switch in the on the top of link image:
now, open the switch (you i'll see a little wire metal inside) clean the inside part of the switch, and "bend" a little ( til you can make sure that will make contact when the lid is closed) and then close the switch.
sorry for my bad english. =P
i hope this help.

The problem is most commonly the ac power cord. I have a PS2 slimline and I had a power cord that fit into the slot and was completly similar to the original cord ,but you may need to order a new cord to solve your red light situation.
