The engine had been washed with garden hose and disconnected right side spark plug wire. Tractor ran rough until we realized the spark plug wire was off. Reconnected the wire and started the tractor up; white smoke exhaust belched out and it still runs rough up hills and when blades are engaged. Low power and smells like it could be burning oil. 13 years old and never had a problen until now.
White smoke is more than likely a water issue. Oil usually has a bluish tinge to it but is some cases, it could be white. Drain the gas a fill with fresh to try and eliminate the possibility of water in the gas. Watch the oil level to see if it changes after using the mower. it may take a few times but if it is burning oil, the spark plug will look "wet" and oil soaked, with possible black soot type build up.

Start with making sure your oil lever is not over full. If it is it may be getting into the crankcase breather hose that goes to the carburetor hence the white smoke. Sometimes also you can blow a gasket in the breather system and it will do the same. Check for oil leaks in the breather system. Hope this helps. donnyb60
disconnect the wires going to the engine except the starter then try if spark returns check your safety switches

Put in new spark plugs and gas filter. Checked the air filters and their good. I've kept up with the the maintenance every year. I'm wondering if running it with one cylinder then reconnecting the dislodged spark plug blew a seal on a cylinder.
And yes it does start with no problems. It just acts like it's choking when riding up hill or blades engaged.
