Lcd connection Hi there am having trouble connecting my laptop (advent 8315) to my lcd tv. after following all the instructions,i am then asked to change the settings using the fn key.i have tried all the fn keys to no avail.i looked up the fn key functions on the net for my advent and it doesn't appear to have the right function key.where can i find the fn key i need? or does my advent not have one?

Try removing your battery, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in and see if it powers up. If not, take your battery out, put it in the freezer overnight, take it out and let it sit in room temperature for 12 hours and then put it back in ....DO NOT put it in right out of the freezer and into the laptop ...let it warm up .... after 12 hours, try it and see if it shows 0% and charging ...if it still shows 100% charged, your battery is shot. Let me know how it goes

your TV owners manual and your lap top manual should have the instructions. if not go to the TV or Laptops man. Support page on the web. Each laptop and tv are different.

If the display isn't going full screen, on that 15.4 inch TFT LCD screen, the problem is the screen Inverter, or LCD screen itself.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the screen Inverter.
It isn't a simple screen resolution setting that needs to be changed.

It needs an additional light source.
The additional light source is a Backlight.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED's.
The Advent 7111 Notebook PC uses One CCFL,

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm Thick. Length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height. 2mm is close to 1/16th of an Inch )

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

I don't have access to a Service Manual, for the Advent 7111 Notebook PC. I haven't had one come to my shop for repair.

I DO have years of experience at repairing laptops, and I see the Advent 7111 is just a basic laptop, as I HAVE repaired over the years.

If you wish, I can guide you step by step, in replacing the screen Inverter.

(MANY people go out, and buy an LCD screen, when the problem is a much less expensive screen Inverter. Afterwards they buy the screen Inverter. Too bad they didn't come here first)

According to the source, you should see TW3M on the bottom of the laptop.

Does your TV have an S-VIdeo input? Does your TV have a DVI input?

What model of Advent laptop?

Does your laptop have a S-Video output socket (looks quite similar to a PS/2 mouse-socket) ?

Does your laptop have DVI-output?

Can get universal power supplies for about a tenner on ebay.If it wont charge but runs on mains it will prob be the battery

did you check to see if that was the correct serial number of the laptop that you got back from the repair center

hi if you laptop has the s-video you can connect that to the tv an it would work

One of the best sources for these types of things is online at a site called newegg.com. You can search based on the Manufacturer and model number of your Laptop. If that fails you try the Manufacturers website, they will sometimes list where replacements can be purchased or well on themselves.
