I am planning on building a screened proch on an existing home which has a Majestic direct rear vent unit venting directly into the area of the proposed screened porch (which is against code in NC). Does anyone know if you can elbow this unit to vent upward through the fireplace chase? If so, does Majestic sell such an elbow?
I do believe it would be against code to vent into the chase. Likely need to ask local permitting department but you then could possibly be "venting" right back into the home regardless of any backdraft damper in the fireplace. Take it outside where it is supposed to go!!

SOURCE: B vent configuration of direct vent propane heaters
Yes, the design of the combustion chamber is limited at how much fresh air and combustion air can enter it. If you lengthen the venting, you will be causing more restriction and there will not be enough natural air movement to make it work. It will start, run for a minute or two and poof out. Not to mention you will be circumventing it's UL rating and if you sell your home with it installed, you are liable for any fatality or damage. Do you want to risk that? Don't even think of doing it! There are "Box" heaters out there sized from about 5,000 Btu's on up to 100,000 Btu's. Check the web.
SOURCE: Is it possible to run
Hello green rose. My uncle had a old stove like you have seen in the western movies with right angle pipeing to the wall of his one room country store. If you use the correct size diameter pipe/duck for your fire place, correct seal for the temperature for the wall, and rain/bug cap on the end of the duck YES. Be very careful for wall studs when routing through the wall. Smoke will follow the heat, heat will seek the least resistance to the highest path.

Thanks for your question,
your problem is either impingement on your log set, or a product of incomplete combustion, if you notice soot on your logs, then you will need to take them out, clean them, and reinstall them as to not have the flame touching them, you will need to clean the burners as well, make sure nothing is laying across the burners, as this too will cause sooting, as far as incomplete combustion, was this model a natural gas converted to propane or the other way around ? if so who ever converted it, did they adjust the gas valve according to specs? improper adjustment will cause sooting or hooking up a natural gas unit to propane will do this too, I will recommend using (Rutland White Off) to remove any soot from your glass, it works fantastic for this ! any ace hardware will carry it, please do not use windex or any other cleaner on the glass as it will more than likely leave a rainbow affect on your glass once the glass heats up, hope this was helpful to ya, please rate this solution, thanks agai

SOURCE: Have a Dovre 750 gas direct vent stove. How much
Dovre is actually an old gas stove manufactured by what is now Hearth and Home Technologies. This is a discontinued model. visit www.quadrafire.com for technical support. If they won't or can't help you let me know I think I have the older tech manuals somewhere.
