Is the fan damaged or is it the lamp or both? The loud started a week ago when turning the set off. It was about 10 sec. Now, the noise is loud once the set is turned on. Any thoughts??

The loud noise is the color wheel winding down when you turn the TV off. You need to replace the color wheel.

Samsung dlp tv HLP5663W makes loud noise

Yes, the set uses a color wheel and the lamp faces it.

The wheel turns at over 8,000 rpm and is well known for this problem=bearings in the tiny motor go bad.

The high pitched or fan like noise (classic description) is this part.

Sooner or later the wheel (plastic colored segments) will shatter and set will shut down lamp and not operate---set monitors the speed of the wheel so if it slows down or stops it knows.

The part is readily available on the internet (Google the model number with "color wheel").

This can be a do it yourself repair and You Tube has video instructions for replacing the wheel by model number.

There are two common pitfalls to avoid which the instructions that come with the replacement part usually do not mention---if you decide to do this repair let me know and I will explain.

Loud noise coming from Lamp area

The fans in these generaly do not go bad, the part nubmer for the lamp cooling fan is 265943. But my guess is that the color wheel is starting to go out of you light engine. I am not sure if these are still avalable but the part nubmer for it would be 267888. Worst case you could send your engine in for repair engine nubmer should be 265864 or order a repacement try this site. GOOD LUCK http://www.moduslinkptstvboards.com/Default.aspx

Lamp won't come on and loud rattle in back of tv

Probably a defective color wheel. The bearings are bad or perhaps the wheel itself is broken.

Dell 3300mp Projector Loud Noise

Judging by the mains hum noise and now shaking it sounds as if a motorized component has broken.
Humming could have been the initial jam, then shaking the damaged part attempting to rotate.
Maybe check your cooling fan blades?

I have owned a Sony Grand Wega for about 3 years now and for the past few months the TV has been making a very loud noise. I thought the noise was the fan but came to find out it was not the fan and was...

Hello,

There is a fan beside the lamp chamber in this TV. There should be 4 fans total, and the one beside the lamp chamber might be making some noise. They are all bearingless fans, so the noise should be relatively low-pitched "whirr" if it is the fan. If the noise is more of a buzzing sound, it could be coming from the lamp driver (ballast) or from the lamp itself. Lamps tend to do strange things toward the end of their life.

If you have never changed the lamp, it is about time. They have a 2.5 -3 year life span with average use.

One thing you can try is to turn the TV on from a cold start, and watch inside the vent areas beside the lamp chamber. If you hear the noise before you see the lamp light up, then it is probably a fan. If it starts as soon as you see the lamp light up, it is the lamp or ballast.

Hope this helps you...

Loud squealing noise first 5 minutes after tv is turned on

Sounds like the color wheel. It's the only moving part in most DLP's and the bearings can go bad. If it manages to get up to speed the picture may look normal. One temporary solution may be to let it run a few minutes, then turn the set off for 10 minutes, then turn back on. When my color wheel was going bad that would often quieten it down. For the rest of the day, try to leave the set on, especially if you're only going to be away from the TV for short periods. You can turn off your cable or satellite box but leave the set on and you won't have to go through the hassle of trying to quieten down the color wheel until the next cold start. Of course the best solution is to replace the color wheel which even with a rebuilt unit won't be cheap if your warranty is expired.

Very loud fan or vibration noise

Listen from the back of the TV and locate the source of the noise. There may be fan with a bad bearing. The noise will lead you to it.

Loud noise

I believe it is the color wheel. The motor might be going bad or it has dirt or dust in it.

I hope this helps
