Thanks, konafaa. Sometimes the best procedure is to start over from the beginning, as you discovered.Best regards!

SOURCE: I have a d link

Welcome to Fixya

Try to turn off/on the dlink router first. Reisntall the driver of your ethernet adapter. check your computer's IP address by going to command prompt and type in ipconfig. This is to verify it is valid and not a private address that starts with 169.254. An invalid address of the form 169.254.x.x signifies your computer's inability to obtain a usable IP address from your router. If you have 169.x.x IP address, Reboot your computer, router (if present) and broadband modem together, then re-test your connection. If your connection remains non-functional, run the Windows Network Repair utility on your computer.

Thank you for using Fixya!

D-link DSL 2730u modem dead after wrong firmware update through wireless

Attempt to do the firmware update, again--connecting always to ethernet for firmware updates. Unfortunately, your modem may be "bricked" (unusable)--in other words, it may be time to recycle it and buy a new one.

The firmware may proved damaged--given that the incorrect firmware successfully installed (hopefully, that was prevented by the device itself--it may have output an error message or code)--or, it was installed incompletely, or the update proved corrupted.

NEED CD INSTALLATION

You don't need an installation CD to setup the wireless but you do need the ADSL settings from your Internet provider to configure the ADSL modem.
Connect a LAN cable from the D-Link to your laptop/computer's LAN port, open the browser on your laptop/computer and enter the D-Link's configuration URL..
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = blank (just press Enter) You can now change the default admin password.
You can now configure the wireless settings. (WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access). Now configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings. To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security .

I LOST MY Linksys WirelessG ADSL Home Gateway WAG200G Wireless router CD

Download the firmware from the Download tab after following the link. You should be able to find user guides and other help for your router there too. Downloading the firmware should allow you to use the router. The CD just contained that info.

I use AOL as my ISP, with British Telecom supplying my telephone line rental. On Friday 2nd my internet connection kept dropping out, and then eventually stopped connecting altogether. My original router...

If BT tested the phone line is OK but did AOL test the connection to the Netgear router and get the IP address of your Netgear router.
The phone connection is OK but the ADSL connection from the telephone exchange may not be working, that is why you are not getting an ADSL light.

ADSL wireless router setup..

I am not sure if its the same config instruction with linksys modems...but usually you can configure it using the setup wizard or manually.

The setup wizard can be found in the installation CD when you bought the modem/router. just insert the CD and follow the instructions given at the screen.

For manual configuration...open your internet browser (IE or firefox) then type http://192.168.1.1 (or check the manual for the correct local ip of your modem) you will see the configuration page in the browser in were you will put the username, password, PPPOA, VPI...etc.

reply back if you need further info. hope this helps.

Problem withD-Link DI524

Hi Darren-N,

Please excuse some silly question in order to help you.

1- did you connect this router to the adsl/cable modem?
2- does the ISP require you to clone the ethernet MAC address?
3- did you connect the modems ethernet port to the correct port on the router?
4- Is the router seeing an active link to the modem?
5- Is the router configured to be the DNS server or is this disabled.
6- did you enable any MAC filtering or enable any other security features?
7- If it's connected to an ADSL modem through ethernet, does the modem require a keep link alive/active ping so that it does not drop the link?
8- Does the PC the router is connected to have a firewall, if so this might be the problem.

Please describe the set up in as much detail.

Regards,

Spare head 2.

Setting up linksys adsl2 modem

The ADSL, Ethernet, and USB ports are located at the back of a Linksys modem. These ports are where the phone cable and computer will be connected. The ADSL Line should be connected to the ADSL port and the computer either be connected to Ethernet or the USB port., If u r using a ethernet cable no need to run the setup cd just connect the ethernet cable and contact ur isp..
do not worry about ur sagem modem, let it be inside.. just connect ethernet cables alone..

To setup a Linksys ADSL Modem with usb cable you need to perform two steps:
  1. Connecting the Devices Together
  2. Installing the USB Driver
Connecting the Devices Together
Step 1:
Connect the phone cable to the wall jack with ADSL service and then connect the other end to the ADSL port of the modem.
Step 2:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged to an available power outlet.
Step 3:
Connect the USB to the USB port on the back of the modem and then connect the other end top the USB port of the computer.
Step 4:
Power on the modem. After connecting the device together, install the USB driver. For instructions, follow the steps below.
Installing the USB Driver
Step 1:
Power on the computer.
Step 2:
When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears. Click Install the software automatically (Recommended).
NOTE: Windows XP has pre-installed drivers for the ADSL2MUE and will automatically install the USB driver for the modem.
Step 3:
Click Finish.
