Kenmore 401.80083700 won't turn off

The unit was in use, opened door adjusted food, closed door, then loud buzzing sound, turn table stopped, still running and stop/cancel button on keyboard won't work while in process. Only way to shut down is to unplug or keep door open. When plugged back in, allows the resetting of clock, but once door is closed it starts buzzing and running again. Will not cease via control buttons. Please advise and thank you for your help.

When I press the stop button it beeps, but doesn't stop the unit. When I press the start button there is no reaction or beep. But the other controls on the panel when push engage in the beeping sound. Could it be a relay switch on the start button causing it to stay engaged? How do you fixed a failed control board and is it an expensive repair? I so appreciate your guidance. Are any of these repairs something I can do myself?

It is one of two things, a defective door switch, or the keypad control board has failed.

Testimonial: "Yes, it was honest and help me make a decision of repairing or replacing. Thank you so much."

The door swich is the least amount to repair, but the keypad control board must be replaced as a whole unit which is expensive, the part alone will cost more than some microwave ovens new. When you consider the price of a new one it might be the better solution.

SOURCE: constantly runs but does not heat

The circuit board is faulty. It should be covered under the warranty. Call GE or the place of purchase.

SOURCE: The microwave just stopped working

The problem is the magnetron. This is the part of the microwave that heats the food. partselect, com likely has your part with a diagram and great prices.

XL1800 buzzes but heats

If the magnetron was making louder noises prior then replace the magnetron. While the cabinet is open make sure to look for burned wires, check the continuity of thermal cutoffs, and check the main circuit-board for burned traces or components. The relays in most electronics are known for arcing (spot welding) and staying in the wrong position. Tap them hard with the back end of a screwdriver.
You may have to replace the capacitor too. During all of this use safe electrical practices by having the power cord unplugged. The capacitor could still have a high charge on it so be careful.

My microwave won't heat

The real clue here is strangely enough the table not turning.

All units have a switch in the side (usually the right side) of the cabinet--when door is opened it allows the unit to work but will not heat or the table (usually both) will not work.

It has to be got at from the inside of the unit--little plastic holder with the switch which looks like a leaf switch.

What I have seen several times (including a unit I own) is that from countless opening and closing the door the holder may break or even melt and the contacts on the switch no longer are in position to work when door is open.

The purpose of such a switch is simple---it prevents the unit from being used if the door is OPEN.

Not a hard or expensive repair

Turn table won't turn on ewave microwave oven

Almost certain if microwave still heats a bad motor or gear issue inside the unit--if unit will not heat the safety switch in the side that the door engages is the cause of the wheel or platter not turning--prevents unit from use if door open.

GE Profile Spacemaker XL JMV1460 Turns On by Itself

Sounds like there is a stray piece of wire or other metal floating around inside the case. Remove the cover and any breakables in the microwave (the power cord is unplugged for this), turn it upside down over a table and shake it, pound the bottom, and shake it some more--likely the offending piece will drop out onto the table. If so, put it back together and whack it to see if that fixed the problem (cord plugged back in). This process can be repeated.

Buzzing noise, wont work???

The magnatron is shorting, overloading the high voltage transformer. From the picture this looks like an older unit and is probably not worth a magnatron replacement.
